I read somewhere that a SPDT switch is required when using an IOT relay/spindle/laser configuration. The only reference I see in the documentation is when using an X4 controller. I am using an X32 without the SPDT switch and everything seems to be working OK. I turn off the IOT relay when using the laser and unplug the laser power and PWM, when using the CNC. Laser uses a separate 24VDC power supply The IOT is wired to the TOOL connection and laser to PWM. Laser is a LaserTree 10w, 24V. Router is Nymol Labs 7000-30000 110V with 65mm mount (Carbide Create clone except it has ER11 collet). Vacuum is also connected to the IOT, not used when using the laser. Air supply for laser uses its own 110V connection. Do I need the switch? Is there a drawing on how to hook it up if I need it? Bill P
Was not required, but could be done with the old 4X. Not relevant to X32 anymore (IoT's Tool Enable and Laser's PWM now seperate outputs) All you do is leave all the tools wired up. Control POWER to relevant device for the job. Running a laser job? Turn on Laser's PSU and turn Router OFF. Running a router Job? Turn Laser's PSU off and Router ON Vacuum should never be on same IoT as router (Will exceed current draw and pop the IoT). Use a seperate IoT and the Coolant port as per the docs docs:blackbox-x32:connect-coolant [OpenBuilds Documentation] Then Router jobs contains M8/M9 commands to turn vacuum on and off, and make sure your Laser jobs just doesn't include it. (Vacuum good for soot and smoke removal though, if properly plumbed with a cyclone etc)
Thank you ever so much for clearing that up for me. I'll look into a 2nd IOT as you suggested. Bill P
The IOT says it can handle 12 amps, my router is rated at 6, vac at 8.6, so that is more than it is rated for. No idea what initial amp surge would be. Has been working fine so far. Can I run two IOT relays off the Tool connection and not have to use the coolant socket? I hate the idea of trying to remember to mod the gcode files in order to turn vac on/off. Or is there a way to automatically add the M8/M9 commands? I use Aspire with OpenBuilds Post Processor (mm). How about plugging in a 120VAC/5VDC transformer into IoT 1 (along with router) and having it turn on IoT 2 which would have the vac connected? The transformer shouldn't draw hardly any amps. Thanks, Bill P
Only once off fix your CAM posts to include it Most of our Post Processors do include it, check your gcode
