Is there a macro or modified version of the control software that allows you to choose the long axis of movement in the surfacing wizard? My open builds has a smaller X than Y axis (how I received it) so when I'm planing boards the wood grain usually goes in the Y direction and I'd prefer the surfacing option to go up/down vs side to side. Feels like something that should be in the software but some searching I have seen others mention it and no clear fix other than create a macro or modify the program. Before I dig in to that myself, I thought I'd see if someone has fixed this.
I would just create a drawing and generate my own Gcode for it, that is all the wizard is doing. For fun I just tried it. open sketchup, draw rectangle the size of my bed, set parameters (19mm bit, 0.5mm depth), add pocket cut, generate gcode. Took 2 minutes 35 seconds to get to a Gcode preview.
Added to the todo, thanks, good suggestion X or Y direction Surfacing · Issue #375 · OpenBuilds/OpenBuilds-CONTROL
Man, do you guys have a video anywhere or even instructions and how to actually run the Surfacing/Flattening wizard? That would be awesome and I'm actually surprised with everything else you guys have that you are someone else hasn't already done one. It's apparently a very important part of the "setup" process for setting up these machines as I'm not figuring out. Thanks!!
No video, but its super simple, enter values like endmill diameter, width and length of the stock to surface, and cut depths in wizard, and run it just like any other Job (Jog over, zero, run job) Not critical for setup - far more important to have a Trammed machine Tramming: A generic guideline
