C-Beam Actuator Example Builds

    I try to stay a little off of each end, so I say usable area for the 1000 is approximately 900mm
    Of course one has to keep in mind that the wider that the gantry cart is the less travel, but with the wider stance you gain more gantry cart strength. So there is a little trade off in either direction.

    Definitely. You wouldn't want to interfere with your Z axis. ;-)

    Hello everyone. Complete noob to this forum and 3d printing here. This product seems like it would simplify many things for a noob like me. If I wanted to build a corexy with 500mm ones for all axes, what other parts should I be looking at please? (e.g. controllers, extruders.. etc. please bear in mind that I have no prior experience with 3d printing. Any help will be much appreciated.)

    What is the maximum speed (in mm/s) for the C-Beam actuator ?

    We have tested the 1000mm version at 2000 mm/min rapids without any issues. The shorter versions 500/250mm should be able to go even faster then this :thumbsup:

    thanks a lot... that's 33 mm/s .... I saw a project to build a Delta printer with it but it's seams very slow for a delta printer...

    Agreed, If need power and you are trying to mill with the delta then the lead screw driven actuator would be great, but for 3D printing where you want to quick movements then belt is ideal.

    Very interested in knowing what the travel stroke is for the C-Beam Linear Actuator Bundles as well.

    Travel for the 250 mm version?
    Travel for the 500 mm version?
    Travel for the 1000 mm version?

    Good question;
    We like to leave about 10mm open from each end (see pic)
    So we call the center to center travel lengths as follows:
    Travel for the 250mm version is ~150mm
    Travel for the 500mm version is ~400mm
    Travel for the 1000mm version is ~900mm

    Total newbie here, so sorry if this is a lame question or suggestion.

    Mark, the C-Beam looks fantastic.

    I started a project that I'm considering converting into C-Beams. I'm in the planning stages and would like to use the gantry plates from the OX machine but with 8 mini wheels running in the interior portion of the C-beam instead of outside. I've been trying to modify the gantry in skethup to add to my design, but I seem to suck very much at it.

    Do you think it would make sense to use the bigger OX gantry this way. I think that doing so, I could then lay the C-Beam flat on the table for the longer axis.

    @kram242 - I know I am the one resisting change and its showing my age, but I am still using Sketchup 8 - can you do a Save As - Sketchup 8 of this? :)

    I'm very interested in buying a few of the 500mm actuator bundle.

    Can you tell me what's the over length with and with out the stepper motor?

    With a little nema 8 motor, a gt2 gear and a couple of pulleys you could easily make a retracting hotend dual extruder setup with the c-beam. It wouldn't require much at all. two little plated with hotends on them with the belt attached and a move of 10mm or so to pull one up while putting the other down simultaneously. That's take away any tattooing from dual extrusion.

    HI I'm new to this site does anyone know how much friction i'm gonna get with this acuator? I mean between the wheels and the rail. Also around how many times can i move it back and forth before the wheels or the rails fails Thanks any suggestions will be appreciated :)

    Jason, it would be more helpful to give us an idea of what you are wanting to do with this. There are too many variables (load, speed, tightness, environment, etc.) to give any kind of answer to what you have asked. Also note this is a hobby grade system. There are no lab test reports on any part of it.

    Thank you Mark for the XY stage setup. I implemented it but I found there was not enough clearance between the tee nuts and the beam and now the plate cannot move easily without scratching the beam. I'm thinking of using taller spacers for the four wheels and anti-backlash nut to raise the plate slightly. Would that be an acceptable modification?

    I am also having problems with the carriage assembled per the video, it squeaks metal on metal. Looks like maybe the lock nuts, but not sure yet

    I filed down the tee nuts to allow clearance and all is good now.

    I noticed the lead screw wobbles a little bit when the motor is running. What's the effect of this on the positioning accuracy of the machine and how do I go about fixing it?

    Hey guys, if you look closely at the C-Beam XY example model (my fault for not pointing it out as I actually forgot about them) in this XY setup. In order for the teenuts to ride slightly above the V-Slot rail you will want to space them higher then a normal 1 spacer wheel install, by adding another washer. This will give the clearance needed to allow for smooth operation above the rail.

    Thats a 3mm spacer and a 1mm spacer for the added spacer on the wheels (normally only a 3mm spacer on the nut block)
