I almost had a panic attack reading your build log. Slow down :)
You'll have to figure out the software workflow. Maybe fusion 360 to mach3?
I use solidworks 2015, but if you need something modeled and converted to another format I could try working with ya. I would offer to manually machine something on the knee mill from a sketch, but you kinda burnt that bridge.
Don't you just love all of the packages in the mail? Its like multiple holidays on your own dime. heh

Thanks Joe ... I think, by slow down are you saying to just build something basic first and gain some experience or that 4 weeks is too fast for cnc design? You are right about the software work flow but without hardware it is way to abstract of a concept for me to learn. I like the 360 price point but won't try it until my free trials expire. I'll start with some free cad to cam to start. I always liked working with solid works but they don't hand out 30 day trials without getting hounded by retail sales calls, (it's nice to see open source cutting the giants off at the knees after their 30 yr reign of terror.)

I appreciate the almost offer for work but if you're across the pond the shipping would be more expensive than the aluminum plate, my wonky Chinese drill press can manage in a pinch. I don't intentionally burn any bridges but my feet are on fire, or my pants, and inventor reminds me every day that the clock on the design phase is ticking. The parts were purchased to expedite the design of the custom part drawings.

The packages are fun but every one them has a note inside saying, "you can't afford this, how the hell do you expect to pay for all this."

fusion 360 is free to hobbyist and startups past the 30 day pro trial.

Mach3 is free up to 500 lines of code (with some limitations)and it pairs wonderfully with that g540. A license will cost ya 150 beans though. Not a bad cost for it imo. If you sold the Chinese stuff you might not have that far to go for an ess. Just a thought.

Davey, thumbs up for the evidence. New information has come to light, though I think it's a fusion part import and he's working with apple and the interface is slightly different. But now I'll hit up the fusion forum for details on import. The button is probably right in front of my nose. And it was, I was trying to avoid the web, which was were it all was, old dog learns new tricks.

Very nice progress on your CNC, looking forward to seeing it finished. I'm currently building a OX but am already looking to upgrade to something like your build with linear rails and ball screws.

Davey, do 2 of those 48V 7.3A ps get wired in parallel and does that mean just twisting the output + together and - together before connecting to the g540? The only reason I thought pc power is we have about 6 dead old pc with ps from 250w to 500w (not sure about mixing wattage, case space, and heat) but wont use them because of all the additional load requirements and wiring. I like the idea of the Chinese ps just not the 4-5 week wait to have it shipped.

Not sure where you are located but if you're in the US you can get them on ebay from Nevada. They are a couple bucks more due to the shipping but have far less wait time.

Good catch I guess I just assumed ebay = china

Rick, they only had the 7.4A 48v, how do you wire two to get 12+Amps and where would the estop go in the circuit?

I am about to start a similar build. I am using the linear rails for the y axis. Using c beam for x and z. What steppers are you using? How fast will it cut?
