I have a solid amount of my printer designed and I am wrapping up the last few things. The only major thing I still have to tackle is mounting the hotend. I have 20x40 extrusion (standing-up/vertical) for the X-Axis and I will have a V-Slot plate on it but I cannot figure out how I am supposed to mount a hotend? Do I have to design and print my own mount? Are there already made V-Slot mounts for e3d or other hotends? Thanks guys
OK, I'm confused. Are you moving the bed in a 360 degree motion around a solidly mounted X-axis? Then the Z action is raising and lowering the 20x40 with the hot end mounted to the lower part? Anyway, It is not perfect, but the X-axis carriage from the Lautr3k could be easily adapted by just using the front and back pieces with through bolts to hold it firmly on the vertical 20x40. Picture is worth a thousand words.
How soon do you need it? Im in the final stage of design/modeling for this solution. And how are you planning to moving your X axis? Belts?
Sorry for any confusion, I was pretty tired when I posted that It's a CoreXY build and the X Axis will be a belt and pinion system. Lautr3k's mount might do the trick, ill have to see if the holes are able to match with a Universal V-Slot Gantry Plate instead of the Mini. I am still learning the verbiage for these pieces so sorry if I mix any up. I basically need a part (or two) that will allow me to mount an e3d hotend to the extruder and then mount that to the Gantry Plate on the X-Axis and I have been pretty lost as far as finding anything.
I uploaded what I have so far for reference. I will be putting a plate on the X axis and making that belt and pinion as well. But I have zero idea as to how I should mount the extruder and hotend to the plate, or what mount I should even use.
Hi MK, Please find attached pictures. I use a similar system for x-axis, but with two 20x40 bars parallel, driven each by a nema 17 stepper, gt2 timing belt and pulley. The pictures show the general configuration and some end details. Hope that helps.
the above port extruder got replaced by a newer version. moved from horizontal full wheels to vertical mini wheels. also added a few bells and whistles such as protrusions for the end stop contacts, and improved the sitting of the dual extruder (micron 3dp) onto the plate, due to a different mounting system. also added two extra (stationary) reinforcing rails, because on an x axis span of 1500 mm, the two gantry plates might not work perfectly in sync, causing slippage on the y axis rails, something which my cureless naiveté hoped at first it would be taken care of by the steppers working in sync. should have known better, but again, better later than ever. now the built is stiffer, and i am hoping the added weight on the x axis will not bite into the speed too much. will post updates as i make progress.
