Hey folks, I have a brand new TinyG rev8 I must sell. Paid $130 plus shipping asking $90 OBO includes shipping within the lower 48. I only hooked it up to 4 steppers and a 24vdc supply a couple of times to test/play around with it and that's all the use it has seen. Hey Greg, I made the noob mistake of beginning to purchase electronics prior to designing a machine to fit both my budget and the needs of my intent. If I had to choose between the TG or the Xpro again I'd go TG all the way. It was a fantastic board. I sold it for a great price to another forum member whom I'm sure will enjoy it when he puts it in use. Joe S.
Hey Joe, Can you tell me why you say you'd choose the tinyG over the xPro if you had it to do over again? I'm in the market - and with the xPro out of stock right now at openbuilds, my interest is drifting back towards TinyG and the pro/cons over xPro V2. Thanks!
Hi Moto, It's personal preference. Mainly, I believe that the drivers are better suited for 2.8A motors and the TinyG has pinouts to upgrade later on. That said, I haven't seen the pinouts in use and the ATX option of the xpro is nice. Joe
Thanks so much for the response. The pinouts do seem sensible for possible upgrade to different drivers later. I'm not going to be using an ATX PS so that benefit is not as important for me. I see so much talk about the Gecko option - but the idea of having to go get yet another computer just for a parallel port seems exhausting The only drawback I see to TinyG is that is requires internet (as best I can tell), which would be bad if I moved it to the shop.
Chilipepper requires internet to use. You do not have to use Chilipepper. universal g-code sender will work the same as xpro. I used tgfx offline in my trials. Mark mentioned grbl panel in another post. It looks great, but I don't know how functional it is (bugs, user feedback, etc). Going with a parallel port option can get pricey. Currently, I recommend it over grbl controllers. The UC100 can be used to turn a usb port into a db25 parallel port. It runs $100 US. One can probably find a used desktop on eBay for less. Joe
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize that tinyG could be used with univ GCSender. Also, the grbl panel that Mark used looked pretty good in his build video for the plate machine. This definitely opens up some options. I think trying one of these 2 will be a good start. If at a later date I need more power etc, I'll spring for a used PC desktop with parallel port. Thanks again!
