My 2 year old 5x5 couplers looked like this but I can't find them anymore and now I need them in 5 x 8mm. I need it where it will lock around the acme and will lock around the stepper's shaft BUT it also needs a screw to go against the flat or it will be worthless to me. There is the video at the spot showing the coupler: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLKDa4V2ZIo&t=780
So you're looking for the clamp style that also has a set screw? If you can't find them then buy the clamping style and drill/tap the set screw.
If I had that sort of tools I would. Someone has to have that and I find it ironic it is in that video YET it is not for sale on this site. Maybe they can't even get it anymore? Seems horrible considering there is a flat edge on a stepper shaft for a reason and at one time it was used by these couplers.
I have them bookmarked on newegg of all places. I use that kind as well, but I thought I picked them up from the parts store here. Banggood also seems to have them.
Picture on Newegg isn't a full view so is that with two large headed screws for the grip and two smaller screws for the flats? I am still scratching my head on why that isn't on Openbuilds anymore as I am putting a full Openbuilds BOM together for my new printer I am about to make and this will be the second item I will have to outsource. :/ Thanks to your finding what you did I found it on eBay "5 x 8mm Flexible Z Axes Motor Shaft Coupler" from your Banggood link. On eBay -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/5mm-x-8mm-Flexible-Z-Axes-Coupler-Fix-for-RepRap-3D-Printer-Mendel-Prusa-CNC-/141354329799 I wonder if Openbuilds will now get the real ones in?
You would think but think again because on my I3 Rework it slips with out it especially when going fast. It is the inertia of going one direction then immediately changing 180°.
Well, I have a link to the full clamp somewhere. I can dig it up if you want. They took a couple of weeks from China from that supplier! If you want you can ship them to my address and I'll drill and tap the holes for you and add a set screw. I'll just charge you shipping. Prob $6 USPS. All this is dependent on if you're in the US of course. Joe
Thank you for the offer for real. I at least found them still offered thanks to Kyo but since there are apparently still suppliers of these what could have been the reason for Openbuilds to shift to these newer styled half done ones? You would think having the other styled ones are more inclusive and better to meet the needs of everyone too. Oh, and another thing I am noticing is just how many are not even split now and with only one screw on each side. That is not a very good design at all but made for costs I suspect. Thank you again for the offer.
