So I was shopping on the net for my planned CNC and found these Door Rollers thingies: Link1 Link2 Link3 Link4 Also came across those Shower rollers: Link1 Link2 Link3 Honestly, I think they're one and the same, but the point here is that is there any reason I cant use these for the pulleys? I mean, these things are literally made to hold up doors. the seem fitting to me. any thoughts here? would they do the job? would I need to stack them? And please, before anyone tells me to just order openbuilds Solid or V. not everyone has them next door, as ordering them takes time, I'd like to find something I can just pick up in bulk at any hardware store within the same day if I need fixing as I'm working on something I might be replicating later on if all goes well. the goal here is to find an alternative. It all comes down to two issues, quality and application. It is hard to judge from a photo the quality of the bearings. Wobbly wheels are of no value in any system and shower wheels are not inherently built to tight standards. You are just going to have to get some and check them for precision and durability. The next issue is application. Are you running these in a slot or at multiple angles around a rod? How is the load transferred. Is it distributed well over the surface or will it grind away the surface of the wheel fairly quickly? Not knowing exactly where you are going with this leaves too many possible questions.
you ask some good questions man. unfortunately, an answer is the one thing I can't get straight away. I'll have to try it out later on I guess. but dimension wise, which one would be the closest to being a replacement? Edit: So far, these are 5.5 Thick, so the only way to get them close to a Solid wheel is to stack two and then it will be 11mm versus 10mm for the solid (if the two shims and the washer don't add even more). any ideas? Update: found some 7mm ones, still same issue if I want to replace the solid wheel.
You need to realize that the wheels you have found are in no way replacements for the Openbuilds solid-V wheels. The beveled edges of the solid-V wheels are designed to fit snugly down inside the beveled edges of the V-slot extrusion. You might get lucky and find a round edge wheel that bears properly on the beveled edges of the groove but anything that doesn't fit properly will either shift side to side or not grip the extrusion at all. Wheels that don't fit properly will also be subject to premature wear. I'm not saying you can't use the shower wheels, you just need to find an extrusion profile for which they are a proper fit.
I think I get it. guess I'll have to look into the kinds of aluminum channel profiles available locally to decide something like that. Thanks for the visual aide man.
