I have a file that I have been working on in sketchup. Now Every time I open it it an error box pops up and says "this file is locked by another user. Do you wish to open the file as read only? Yes/No" If I select no, it does not open the file. If I select Yes, it will not save the file. (I can click Save As and rename it) As far as I know, I'm the only user on this machine... What the FOO?
Julius: No this file is not open anywhere else. Update: If i try to open the file several times, usually eventually it will open properly. May take 2-5 tries to get it to open. Justin: Don't really have anything else open except for Firefox. Occasionally I have a second instance of Sketchup open with a different file loaded. I'm going to try re-installing sketchup. There are enough ghosts in the machine to justify a reinstall. I'll let you know if it helps. Thanks guys.
It comes from the thumbnail preview of the file being created and displayed by windows explorer when you browse your files. If you turn off thumbnails / preview pane or open a file directly from the sketchup interface (vs double clicking the file) it should open without the warning.
Ah that's interesting. I am opening the file using the File/Open from the toolbar, not double clicking the filename. But, it is possible that the Explorer window with the preview is still open. Never dawned on me that that thumbnail would count as having the file open. I'll keep that in mind. I like having the previews when looking for a file though, so I'm not going to turn that off. The workaround is just to keep trying to open the file until you don't get the error. Takes anywhere from 2-6 tires, usually... Thanks Kyo.
Can you not just open it through the file explorer (Outside of ketchup)? I've NEVER run into this issue, unless I just had it already open and forgot about it.
