Planning my OX build

    Hi All,

    I'm in the process of planning my first CNC build and I've decided to go with the Oozenest mechanical kit for the frame. All easy so far.

    Now.. controllers etc.. hmm

    Could you guys give give me an idea of what electronics set ups you are using for your machines and what you are milling. I'm trying to work out what the best set up would be for me and the more I look the more baffled I get!

    I was going to go for a Chinese import combo from ebay but I'm worried about their quality.

    Uno r3/Gshield/grbl 0.9 and mostly wood. Might do some aluminum to make my own plates to expand my machine. who knows

    I have not yet completed my build, but I have my electronics pretty much figured out so far. I am using an Arduino Uno with the Protoneer type CNC shield and GRBL 0.9. My stepper drivers are DRV8825. I have a 36V power supply that I believe is currently set at about 34 Volts. I hooked up all drivers and motors and have tested them using GRBL Panel. To be honest, I was surprised I got them working the first time. Of course the motors have not been mounted on the machine yet so there is still plenty of time for me to screw things up.     I have used cncxpro, shield on a Arduino, and shield on raspberry pi
    other use gecko drivers and break out boards.

    What do you want to accomplish?
    the cheapest way to go is Arduino and a shield. about 20.00 on ebay with drivers.
    next cheapest way is the gshield about 50.00.
    next comes the raspberry PI with a shield about 100.00 all said and done.
    then the cncxpro board 120.00
    last is the gecko's and break out board about 500.00 all in....

    the top 4 are all pretty much the same in the way they operate, other than the RPI it's it own computer so it can run stand alone.
    the gecko's (or copies) can handle more current and you can also use mach to control them.

    So decide on the direction you want to head and I'm sure we can help you decide which way suits your needs/wants...
