What wire or cabling is everyone using for the connections to the motors. I need no more than 18ga wire for my motors but am finding it difficult to find 18-3 S.O. cable. Thats 3 and a ground. This is used most times as I can see as extension cable or easy pull cable in factories. But they mostly use 16ga. The reason I want S.O. is for is't being very flexible. Thanks Steve
Not sure where you are located, but my local Home Depot has 18 gauge stranded or solid that is shielded. I plan to use shielded 18-4 stranded for the flexibility for motors and shielded 18-2 stranded for the limit switches. I believe it is somewhere in the $0.25- $0.35 per foot if bought from a bulk roll. I can't remember the exact price. The wire has the additional ground wire for the shielding. I did not look for 18-3.
What motors? 23...17? I run heavy gauge (22) servo wire for my 17s. Its rated at 7amps over 100' http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BRSGKI?keywords=servo wire&qid=1454270047&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3
Oh sorry. I have the nema 23. I bought the biggest ones so I could use them later in upgrades. they are 110mm long
I bought a box of this: Fire Security Wire Burglar Alarm 22/4 Cable 1000FT Stranded White Cable 1000' These are the motors I'm using: New NEMA 23 Stepper motor Sanyo Denki 227 ozin- CNC ROUTER MILL LATHE ROBOT 1451 Nothing even gets warm. I also bought a box of this: Security Wire Burglar Alarm 18/4 500FT Stranded Unshielded Control Speaker Cable Since I had good luck with the 22ga, I haven't used it yet.
Oh I like the 18/4. How flexible is it. My motors are these. Wantai Nema 23 Stepper Motor WT57STH115-4204A 425oz-in 4.2A
Very flexible. More so than the other cable I was using. It could be the lack of shielding, I don't know, but it works for what I need. I'm guessing it goes down to a 2" radius, or so. Maybe less.
