    Hi Kirt,
    Welcome to the build. I am an Aussie to and you will find Steve at Makers Store in Victoria is good to deal with and help you. I personally think 1500 x 1000mm to be the max size unless your using a very small spindle or trim router. Also check out Homann Designs also in Oz for power supplies and steppers and the gecko g540 stepper driver and a Ethernet Smooth Stepper. He has good plans and is also very helpful. I have just finished the physical build Ann yet to make my first cut as need to sort out some small details in the setup. Great community good luck.

    MakerStore i have bookmarked. Looks like a great range, and good prices also. So the weight is the issue for width? I assume 1000mm is the width... Is it the sagging of the cross bar that would be the issue? I'm just wondering how I could potentially solve the issue. The reason I want to go 2400x1200 is souly so I can throw a while sheet onto the table, and just run the designs, I actually have a couple of designs that have larger components (1.8m high to be exact). At this time I cut all these manually using a router and a template, but I'd love to automate things.

    For that size build I would be using 4mm stainless steel plates and open builds C Beams with at least 8mm Linior threaded rod instead of belts. I have a 1.5kw spindle with VFD and 900mm X axis its at its max for flex. Check out R7 CNC DIY kit at smw3d to get an idea for strong build that size 2400 x 1200.

    I see, that is annoying, I really liked the design of the OX. The R7 looks interesting, I'll have too see if I can find the parts in Aus. Their site says 730x890, I assume you mean to say, it'll be a better option expanding that design? Thanks for your support.

    Yes it gives you a base to start on for big build like that, add lots of L brackets to stiffen up Y Axis and search for the strongest X axis design

    Hmm, double the cost already for a smaller cutting area. I guess the question now is, is it worth paying double the cost (potentially quadruple, if I can't find an Australian supplier for parts), just for the convenience.

    Out of curiosity, you said yours was bigger. What's the cutting area of your build?

    Yer it all starts adding up in price for us down here as shipping bites hard, My build is 1500Y x 900X with a 120Z cutting height. It was a 1ooomm X but had more flex with my spindle weight, now its holding up ok. One thing you can do is make it open ended so material can be fed through and adjust your G-code to park while you move the material. The alternative for 2400x1200 machine you would be looking at the $12000 second hand down here. My build is the Neptunes ox found in the cnc builds. Neptunes Ox | OpenBuilds

    Ahh sweet. 900 X 1500 cutting would probably serve 90% of my purpose, so your build looks to be based off the OX, but strengthened and enlarged a little. I'm going to have todo a bit of research it seems.

    We did look at second hand machines, but nothing under 10k, but the biggest issue is the size, it wouldn't fun in the garage lol. Besides, I'd rather keep the entire build under 5k if possible. Time todo some research!

    Hello CNC - community ,

    I just intalled the limit switches a few days ago....
    when I do homing and the machine reach the end of the axis (limit switch), everything stop after the first axe...
    I guess that when I do homing, the machine drive on each axe endpoint (limit switch) to get the world coordinate 0,0,0

    what I am doing wrong?

    should I upload a video to explain my problem?

    OX Users.

    I have not posted a for a while. Just thought I would add some info.

    1. Still having good luck with dust control just by having a crevice nozzle close to the bit. Just using a small shop vac. However, I just added a cyclonic dust collector prior to the shop vac. its the cyclonic chamber from a cheap vacuum cleaner that I got for nothing. So I re-purposed it in as and experiment and seem to be working well.

    2. I used to use my one custom setup for the controller. An arduino with my own custom code and external stepper drivers. I recently upgraded to GRBL v0.9. Really happy with it.

    Hey guys, quick question. I'm building the ox kit right now and I'm wiring, from the nemas it looks like they're about 20g wire, and in the kit you get 22g. There's not nearly enough of the 22 so I'm going to change it out. Do you think there is an issue with using 18 or 16g instead? I'm not sure how it works when you up the wire size that small and if it has an effect.

    OK so I need some help again, I have it all done just getting the motors down in chilkipeppr. I have the x and z axis moving in chilli and I have the y axis moving but each are moving in the opposite direction. How do I reverse one in chilli? Also, I have the 400w quiet spindle from swm3d I have it set to be controlled by the tinyg but once I plug the machine in the spindle starts spinning and I can't get it to stop or do anything other than spin, but I also don't know all the commands for chilli. Is there a compilation of commands and what they do somewhere? is there a code I should input in the serial line in chilli or an I missing something?

    so i think i've figured out the y axis andi have it going right now, but then the left nema on the axis started making this noise and being really jumpy heres a video of it. do you think the motor is bad or what. also im having a hard time setting zero in chillipeppr am i missing something. i manually jog it to position and then hit the set machine zero but then i load up the sample diamond calibration svg and the machine just goes and knocks itself into the rails and i have no idea why. and i have just taken the spindle and am controlling the speed from the pwm controller since i cant get it to not spin when turned on, when i have it hooked to the tiny g, but if someone knows a way to make it work with the tinyg id love to do it that way. nbyways any thoughts or help is appreciated

    Sounds like you are losing some serious steps. Either because something is not quite engaging, or something is slipping.
    Recheck the mechanics, like grub screws and belts, first. Another video might show more information to go on.

    Good things to check but I could also recommend checking your acceleration settings as if they are way to fast can also cause this sort of sound (losing steps)

    ok so what ive done is i disconnected the motor that was not running properly the left on the y axis. now when i disconnect that i get no movement out of the y so for some reason chilli and tiny are not recognizing the motor on the right. right now i have them all wired seperately, should i wire the two y's up together and just switch the green wires and the reds one one of the motors to reverse it? not sure if this will have anything to do with the missed steps on the left y motor but seems like an equally big problem. also all the settings on the tinyg motors are set up the same, is this where you think i should lower the acceleration?

    so i think have it figured out kinda, i dont know why but the stepper isnt slipping anymore, wht i did was once i saw that the motor on the right wasnt even moving, i moved it over to the same pins on the tinyg that the left motor was on, i just reversed the red and green lines on the right hand motor and i think theyre both running now and in sync no slipping i'll upload a video here shortly so you guys could tell me if it looks correct.but i'm also having trouble with running thte machine through chilli. so when i load up a sample svg like the diamond calibration or the chilli logo and i set the machine zero to the middle of my spoil right? now i run the gcode and the machine just slams the y rail and i have no idea why, also it slams it one way then on the other side, but if you look at what its supposed to e cutting its only like two letters wide. am i missing something? am i supposed to set up parameters or something, i really have no clue and you guys are being super helpful so any help or info is so appreciated, thanks

    For the spindle, make sure you configure the tinyg with $p1pof=0 to cut the current when the spindle is off. If you check your configuration with $$, you'll likely find it set to something other than 0.

    And when I have chilli set to jog it one mm it seems like its jogging 2 inches? It's this something I need to set up as well?

    In the video when I'm jogging it in pretty sure it's set up to jog 1mm but seems like it's jogging more

    You don't have the tinyg configured for your stepper motors and pulley sizes. Have you done any calculations or calibrations prior to trying to run gcode?

    Have everything running great, but for some reason the z axis isn't going to the depth it should be. im cutting the diamond calibration gcode in chillipeppr and im at 7mm down now which should be a 1/4" give or take and its not even at an 1/8th. I dont know why but it thinks its going 25mm but only went 8, any thoughts

    What is your travel setting per motor revolution? If you are using motor 4 for the Z-axis, it should be the [4tr]=8 for openbuilds 8mm acme lead screw.

    You set it with $4tr=8.

    Yea I know it's set for 8 though, should I try 4
