ok heres the files and a couple pics of how the part turned out. i did do a separate gcode file for the engraving cuz i havent figured out the tool change part yet. wrenches1 files are the main layout and wrenches2 files are the engraving

Ok looks like the g-code is good
got to be something in the control software/hardware....
I'm sorry if you said but what driver board are you using?

Using cnc xpro 2 with grbl panel most of the time I also have universal gcode sender and grbl controller but rarely use them.

Here's my current settings for the board. X axis is reversed with those settings but it's just becuase i was playing with it trying to get it to stop mirroring.

First I think you have it right other than $3=2 which inverts y, but you said you were playing around. Set that back to $3=0
Are you sure the machine moves this way?

If I set it to 0 I kno my z is reversed for sure don't remember for sure on the x the y is correct tho. I will double check tonight after work. I kno I can just swap wires around to invert the axis direction but was easier to just adjust the settings.... Is that wat is causing everything to mirror?

I have the same setup and mine works so I know yours will too!!!

Well that seemed to fix that issue thanks snokid. I assumed since I'd read a few places that it wasn't a big deal to invert the axis direction in the software instead of changing wiring..... Just just went with my gut and swapped wires to start with. Now to just figure out the jerky steppers at slow speeds

Hi, i have a question about the cut of the V-Slot, i wanna build a 750x750, and i have see that someone online cut the X carriage at 754, but i have buy a v-slot of 1500 so i can make only a 750mm x2, anyone can tell the exact measure of the size of all v-slot?

Chris makes the nicest plates for my the ox! Warning!!! Get longer screws! They are thick and very strong plates and I needed to order extra stuff but well worth it! Very Satisfied.

There is no exact length with the regular V-slot. Extrusions are cut to standard mill tolerances which could be anywhere from +0 to +5mm. And the cut may not be perfectly square so always leave room in your design in case you need to file off a bit to square it up.

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post - I have read this thing from end to end and have started the journey to build my Ox using SMW3D kit.

But I have a question that I am confused about as I have seen some conflicting information about. Where should I designate the Home limits for each axis? The Z seems simple enough - at the top of the Axis (+Z).

But it is with the X and Y that it gets confused. Do I want it to home away from the (0,0) location or to it?

    Your advise would be appreciated.
    Don

There are varying ideas on the subject. Commonly, you would set home at the bottom left of your project. i.e. Left nearest you. However, as some say, it is likely you will need to move the router/spindle back and out of the way when you are done, so left and away from you is logical.
Either way is up to you really. :)

As someone pointed out to me, it is like religion, find one you like. I guess there is no wrong answer to the where to home to answer, just find a way that works best for you. Thanks for the reply GreyUK for the comfirmation.

Where do you want to change your bit? Where do you want to set the corner of your workpiece? If front left is the answer, well there your zero should be :)

    Hi guys,
Running Ugs with a cnc xpro on my Ox.
I see posts about the settings. I will be using this with SAE measurements. Is there a recommended setting or does the grbl come already dialed in? I'm using the OB g3 belts with 20 tooth pulleys on the y and x axis. If there is any tweaks or recommendations for a perfect tune I would like to get my machine in top shape before I start cutting. Thanks in advance and I really love this place! Super Inspired!

    Hi Don
The industry standard is (for milling machine, usually)
    Z up
    X right
    Y far away
that is machine home, and if you are using GRBL, that is what it expects to do by default.
    Machine home uses machine co-ordinates.
The reason for this is so that doing a command
    G53 G0 X0 Y0 Z0
will move the table toward the operator, and the tool safely up and away from the work, thus making it easy and safe to change vice/fixture/raw material.

Then you position the tool where you need it for the current job and set 'work co-ordinates'.
Z will be the top of the workpiece, and XY will be close/left of the part.

After this, your controller should display machine co-ordinates that are negative numbers, work co-ordinates that are positive, while the G-code will run mostly positive X and Y and negative Z for cutting (unless you change the 0,0,0 point in the CAD)

Note that in all cases, positive motion refers to the tool moving relative to the work. Whether it is the work that moves or the tool that moves does not matter, so long as the 'right hand rule' is observed for TOOL motion.

    David,
Thank you for that great description of coordinates usage. I hadn't even thought about that the Z would be displayed as a negative number during cutting until you mentioned it - then it made sense.

Had to take a break for the past week from the build due to commitments, just starting back on it again tomorrow with the wiring. But now the garage is up to about 100 degrees and I don't want to spend much time out there during the day. Hoping this cool spell lasts a bit longer (highs are only 101 now) and I can get some work done. Wiring an 80 mm intake and exhaust fan into the electronics case and into the power supply case to prevent heat buildup.

    Thanks for the advice,
    Don

    Hello @Blades
Thank you so much for your kind words on the OX Build as well as the OpenBuilds community.
So happy to hear that you are having fun with it.
I would ask you if you could please post this question to the board as I think that many of the guys will benefit from the answer.
Edit: I see you have already posted there and are waiting for an answer. :)
I would recommend that you learn how to set this up for any machine so that you can build custom machines moving forward.
Please have a look at this Resource to learn more on how to calibrate your machines - HOWTO Calibrate your OX or C-Beam
You can also plug your numbers into the steps calculators to quickly get the numbers needed to tune your machine in.
    RepRap Calculator - Prusa Printers
So the number your after for the belt drive would be about 26.67

Blades, I'm getting ready to mount my limit switches myself. Wondering what your easy mounting method for the Z limit switch is. If you get a chance could you post a picture of how you mounted it? Just like to see how your solution fits in with everyone else.

Hi, i wanna build a ox cnc of 750x750, i have 3 questions:
    1) what is the length of the 20x60 z axis v-slot? I have buy a 250mm, I have to cut it?
    2) I have buy the 8mm threaded rod of 250mm, I have to cut it?
3)what should be the height of the mdf spoiler board?

    Thank you very much!

Hey guys! I am just wondering if there has been any discussion of the size limits of the machine? I'm really keen to make mine 2400mm x 1200mm so I can put full sheets of plywood on the table... If anyone has been able to make something to this scale I'd be really keen to hear about it!

    Hi there,
I'm planning my OX build (first build ever) and I have couple questions:

1- When using OXCalculator, the default Z axis is 230mm and the ACME screw 260mm. If I were to use tall plates, what would be the Z axis and ACME. My guestimate is since the Y gantry is ~2.5in taller then Z axis 300mm and ACME 330mm, am I anywhere close?

2- By switching to tall plates, is there anything else to modify except the length of Z v-slot and ACME, I'm thinking maybe upgrading to nema23?

    Thank you,
