    my supplier was good. Not very helpful with info on how to re--pack the nuts but YouTube is there for that. The product as as good as you'd imagine it to be, well polished and precisely ground.
    The key is to contact them and get their email. Deals outside of ebay are about 10% cheaper on both parties, and I still get buyer protection through paypal. I was talking to 2 people, and went with the one who seemed to come across as more competent and better with english, but numbers are fairly universal when you send over CAD drawings for them to cut to. My only mistake was actually having the cuts slightly "oversize" to allow for any mess up on their part, but I should've gone with the exact length. I'll probably have to cut my rails anyways, since they are a hair longer then a meter anyways so this is me just splitting hairs.

    Thanks slm. Openbuilds parts are in new york right now, so I guess another week? I still have to finish the designs and do the CAM for the prototype plates.

    My supplier was very good. I think I dealt with Solarjean. Packaging was fantastic. Communication was great. Shipping...well I can understand. Just make sure they're ordered well in advance ;) After mounting and running them I notice that one is out a little more than the other. These seem to come as rolled and aren't straightened. It's def not a deal breaker as it's only noticeable at higher rpms. Straightening them within a half thou only takes a few mins, but you need the equipment. If you live near a ballscrew manufacturer theyd probably do it for next to nothing.
    You're right about contacting the Asian sellers directly. They'll give you a better deal and they will custom machine them.
    I had to take one of the ballnuts off to reverse it per the design. Oh boy did that turn into a fiasco! YT helped.
    Btw, did you install grease fittings? They're 6mm. I ordered a bag of ten off Amazon. Only need 3. I'll send you some for your build if you want for shipping cost in the US. PM me if you're interested or I can send you the Amazon link I used.

    Why would you have to reverse one? Mine, as seen in the photo dont care which way the nut is because of the housing unit.

    Grease fittings where? I don't think I need anything extra for mine. Theres a hole near the rubber seal for adding grease with it on teh screw, thats about it.

    I needed the nut facing the other way.

    The hole is for a grease fitting.

    In case its not obvious, I can jog, open files, and change the steps (10,1,0.1, and /10) all from the controller. I also can home, set machine 0 and return to 0. Added alt+tab to it as well in case I have something else open and I grab the controller.


    Plates were milled today! Im adding the media to the build article now...

    As in the model, 1 2080 for the Y's, and 3x 2080 for my X. Overkill? Maybe. Better safe then sorry and its only a few dollars difference to go wider.

    Ahh. I see it. Bad eye site. Looked like the pattern for for the c beam. But I agree with your choice on the X. Are you planning on fastening them together?

    Will you publish the updated plates etc. please? My OX is getting weary & needs a transplant. I've been thinking about ballscrews, so this could be it! Also the name of the Canadian firm with the wheels?

    I have the zip that I sent to Sean, but I'm not publishing these publicly with my logo in it and I want to make sure everything works first. I have my wheels spaced 99.2mm apart and Im really hoping that's right hahaha. I'm expecting at least one thing to be misaligned and need reaming, but everything was aligned just fine in solidworks. Expect the best and prepare for the worst!


    When I have it assembled I can make sure everything's right and publish them.

    ^As for the wheel supplier, he seems to have closed his ebay page. I probably got his last few baggies. Opencreations in Europe seems to have decent prices, I got my eccentrics there for 1.50 each or so shipped, and they did arrive last week. Plates are all thats left!!!!!

    Sorry if you did. I may have missed it. Do you terribly mind sharing your eBay suppliers name for the ball screws. I'm looking to try what your doing. Especially for the price.

    14 hours in with assembly, loose ends, wiring, testing, etc etc. Ballscrews are a new challenge on a hobby level. My screw holes were slightly undersized from the mill, so I had to spend a few hours reaming them up to 5 and 7.2mm. Caught a design oversight or two, and am fixing those in the CAD models now. When I have everything up and running I'll probably cut some new ones to test my machine, as well as place the improvements.

    Anyways, heres the vid of it running at 3500mm/min after some struggles. A ballscrew needs 11x as many steps per mm as my belts so 5k is the max with these motors and a 1605 screw. Next machine, I will definitely go 1610 and high speed motors/better drivers. I'll worry about that next winter ;)

    very nice @Julius
    you should be able to get more speed by using higher voltage on the drivers, yet don't try to actually use the max voltage they are rated for <-: so if they are rated 40 volts use 35 volts, just to give them a little space.

    Well, Chris and I went through the math of these motors, and 5k IS the max they can do (based on their RPMs and the steps needed to turn the screw). The easy way of doing it was I could get 50k with belts and a screw takes 11x as many steps so they can get about 4.8k or so with screws. I think there is extra friction right now, the gantries are VERY tight (The 99.2 spacing from the forum is much too tight with these wheels, I had to use my body weight to put it on with the eccentrics as loose as possible) and the clearance holes on the plates are only about 0.5mm oversized, so I fear there may be contact there. I changed that design already (end plates are 13mm holes, gantry was set to 10 for some reason)

    I am messing around with the V+ pot to get everything working to about 4k, and will probably cut at 3k and 3.5k if there arent issues. Thats what I cut with belts, but I feel like this machine can do more then 2mm passes in MDF so there should be time saved.

    I also only have a 24V PSU, and the Gshield has a 30max so I dont think I can actually fry anything.
