AxialFi: ProSmart WARNING: I may have put too much though into this! This name combination is a playful portmanteau that utilizes several references. It refers to: the axes of a machine that utilizes linear motion, (see: axial) a soft-play on the musical term "Fi," (see: Fi) and additionally, a shared-connection to the Latin-term: "Semper [Fi]." “Fi” refers to semitone between the fourth and fifth degrees of a musical scale, which is somewhat of a nod to the 4th and 5th axis capabilities of the controller. The joint Marine Corps-reference of “Fi” is unintended. It is not meant to promote any particular agenda, or ideology, but rather, it references the original meaning behind the term. Therefore, “Semper [Fi],” is with respect to the original Latin-term, meaning: "always faithful." I felt this this combination supports the quality, scalability, and dependability of the controller. It may also represent the aforementioned attributes in the open hardware community that will surely help to promote its continuous evolution. The additional term: "ProSmart," is to the point and provides a reference to the machine's "Pro"-fessional feature-set, and likewise, it's "Smart" abilities as a scalable, and customizable, controller. I might have put too much though into this after my 2nd pot of coffee. Please see the definitions below for more info. Axial: adjective - of, forming, or relating to an axis. /or/ - around an axis. Fi: noun - the solmization syllable used for the semitone between the fourth and fifth degrees of a [musical] scale. (I used this as a play on the ideas of a 4th/5th scale, and a 4th and/or 5th axes. sem·per fi·de·lis: latin: always faithful (the motto of the US Marine Corps).
