Robert and Chris both do great work. While I don't make any money on the sales; Chris has asked permission to make / list my plate design and has a set on ebay right now. "Plate Set" according to his listing it looks like he will ship world wide. How much capacity do you have on the 3020? The largest plate ( Y-axis side plates ) are only about 170mm tall by 160mm wide. you might be able to cut them your self as well?
Thanks for posting, I did come across those already on Ebay. While he obviously spends time on the finishing and they look superb, nearly £300 for the plates is way too expensive for me. (A 400mm x 400mm piece of 6.35mm thick 6082 T651 is less than £20 ) There is no way I would cut them out on the 3020, it only has a 200W spindle. When I did a 2mm thick panel a couple of weeks ago I had to do 0.1mm passes, very slow. One possibility is to just use the 3020 to drill the holes, which are obviously the most important thing and then cut them out with a jigsaw. I assume the exterior profile/shape is not that critical. If you have a circular saw you might scan youtube for how to build a circular saw crosscut jig. They are fairly easy to knock out and would make easy going of the outside edge cuts.
I cut mine all with a table saw and scroll saw. I drilled all the holes with a drill press. Here is how: Lead Screw Driven Ox Derivative (850x1500) I even included a video in my build on the crosscut sled I built to replace the aging one that was used for the last 20 years.
Correct, you could make them as square or rectangle as needed as long as they are not larger then original. Certain aspects are done for a reason, like the front x-axis plate notches making setting the Z-axis perfectly vertical and inline with x/y a snap; but are not needed to start a build. Would a 1:1 scale PDF template for each plate be helpful ? I can add them to the build thread. That way you can just print them off on a regular printer. EDIT: A good way of doing this is to use pcb transfer paper Like you can find here "Link" Put it on your aluminum plate and heat it up to transfer. Peal the transfer paper of. and cut out your profile. Last three images belong to RhysGoodwin.
