While building my OX AI I found myself with left over v slot and thought to myself, what do I need that I can build using them? Well since I make a lot of my own PCB boards for projects I figured a micro PCB mill would fit the bill ;) With inspiration from the OX and OX AI I give you the Stinger V :)

    Not sure yet but it can be made as large as one wants.
    I just wanted to use up all my spare odds and ends.
    I would guess at about 12 x 14 inchs

    One worry I have about the Tension 20 design is that it appears to only be adjustable from the inside. Have you found instances where they are not easy to tweak on after they have been installed?

    Wondering if the adjustment grooves would be better placed in the plate itself, and the threads in the Tension 20 so you can tweak on stuff from the outside? Just a thought as I've studied over the screenshots.

    I did think of that but I would have needed to make two different tension designs so I did my best to allow room.
    You would need a stubby Allen wrench for tweaking down the road from wear.

    As long as you can get to them without disassembling stuff I suppose it is not a big deal. Excited to see some more details!

    This looks to be an awesome build. Can you share with us the lengths and cross sections of the extensions used as built? Also, I presume that this is designed for the NEMA 17 steppers. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

    Hello. I have been reading up on all of the builds on this site. Yours seemed the most rigid. Can either this build or the OX build mill aluminum? Is it rigid enough to mill the OX side plates as the original CNC (with the liquid cooled spindle) did?

    I am looking into building a CNC router to be able to mill an unibody aluminum laptop case(like the macbook pro).

    As of yet not really, I need to replace all the v wheels still and finalize the controls before I can really say anything.
    It is super solid that's for sure and the Nema17 motors from the builds store are quite impressive.
    I'm also real happy with the Z leadscrew, moves smooth and fast even at 1/16 step rates :)
    I will say that I was hoping to find a smaller RC motor for the spindle that wouldn't take up to much space but really making the Y rails an extra 50 mm long would make up for the lost cutting space.

    So after some testing I know the X axis has 360mm of travel from limit switch to limit switch

    Also the RC Motor I plan on using for the spindle has arrived and I will be picking it up tonight.

    Same 890KV 5045 just a different style and make :)

    I will be saving the power supply I got from openbuilds store for my OX spindle and using 2 modified 250w rack mount power supply's one for the spindle and one for the controls.

    Hi Robert! I'm going to build a Stinger and wonder if you are going to release drawings/plans with measures? I also wonder if it's any advantage to use leadscrews for X and Y axis instead of belts? I assume there is higher precision with screws when milling aluminium?

    When milling aluminum a stiff/rigid mill is a bonus but here is my take.

    The first thing anyone should think of is their needs from the mill.

    An OX and Stinger with belts can mill aluminum but of course a leadscrew would be a benefit.

    A lot has to do with how you run your mill, feeds, speeds, bits, router power ex

    Anyone can hit a start button on a spec mill, but a hobby mill needs to be played with, tweaked and used in a manor to provide you with the results that make you happy.
    No mill or operator will do things alike so your creativity must come in to play here.

    On my MakerBot Replicator 2 the z-axis (that has a screw) have much higher precision than the x- and y axis (that use belts). But if screws got this advantages, why is there so few using them in their builts? More expensive, more noice, the motors must run with higher rotation or is there other reasons?

    Btw, did you see my question about parts for the OX?

    Cost is a major reason and the rotational speed must be faster to get the same speeds/feed.

    I did see your question, but real busy.
    Where about are located.
    So I can give your a idea of pricing

    That is costly when it comes to shipping.
    If you op for no tracking with the same delivery time frame it cuts the cost in half but I really don't like not having tracking.

    I have shipped international with little problems tracking or not so it's up to you in the end.

    What plates are you wanting?

    - 4 main plate set
    - 4 main plate set with end plates
    - 4 main plate set, end plates and Z plates

    I want 4 main plate set, end plates and Z plates. On some of your pictures you have plastic parts (for the stepper motor). Is that done with your laser cutter or did you mill that?

    I milled them, included them in some kits and also used them in my builds.

    I have no more spare left as the rest is being used for a special request.

    I may be getting more soon but not sure when.

    Any updates? How is the testing and beta testing going? I'd love to see the files posted. Once that happens I'll have to take the machinist at work a present and a USB drive with the files on it.

    Things are looking good, I do have some more testing to do and a real milling job " try to mill the spindle control board" I also have to rebuild the RC spindle because I tried to use a smaller bearing in place of the 608zz and it's didn't hold up to the RPM range.
