    Hi Justin Time,
    it is very simple.
The G28 Code is for Homing.
When you use "G28 X0 Y0" - The Homing are only by the X and Y Axis. By reaching the limit switch the X and Y Axis position is "0".
When you use "G28 Z" - The Homing are only by the Z Axis. And by reaching the Z limit switch ist the position "0".
When you use "G28 Z26" (26 ist the complet high from the Sensor) - The Homing are only by the Z Axis. And by tiggerd the Sensor, the Z Homing position is set to "26 mm".

My Cam Software (Estlcam) calculate the CNC Program from the "0" - Point to minus (the Hole -3 mm deep).
The CNC Machine drive fast (F1500) to the "0,5 mm" Z Position and begin to mill the Hole (-3 mm deep).

I hope I could help you.
