This will be great @Anthony Bolgar looking forward to it. Well, it was 600 but one of the Builds turned out to be spam so it was deleted and that pushes the build count to 599. Sorry brother it was close though . This build is much needed so can't wait to see what you come up with. Mark
It is basically a 3D printed inverted funnel with a high CFM PC fan inside being supported by some 20X20 vslot. I would like to have it recirculate into the room air after passing through an activated charcoal filter, but I have a feeling that the consumables will make it cost prohibitive, so I am trying to devise a lightweight flexible hose than can be exhausted outside as an alternative.
Remember, pull air whenever possible don't push it as it pushes back. So if you go with the long hose put the fan near the exhaust end. 4 in. x 10 ft. Transparent Dust Collector Hose might be the best source for a cheap hose.
OK, I have found a source of activated charcoal filters that won't bankrupt me. 10/20Pcs Black Square Activated Carbon Foam Sponge Air Filter Pads Set 13x13cm | eBay 20 pieces 13cm X 13cm for $10.99 This means I do not need to vent it outside, the build has become much easier to design. I should have some pics/drawings posted in a couple of days.
I have decided to trash my original idea on how to build this and am currently mulling over a couple of alternative options. I would like to make this build using as many off the shelf openbuilds parts, and keep the number of 3d printed parts to a minimum (preferably 0 ). In the mean time while I try and decide the new configuration, I can at least start on the filter section of the exhaust system, pretty basic, use some vslot to make a frame that the charcoal filters will sit in. Will post a picture or two once I have it prototyped.
Sourced the following fan for the exhaust: High Air Pressure 120mm 38mm Fan Cord Guard 12V 2Pin DC 240CFM Ball Bearing 0.8A It moves a whopping 240CFM of air, most 120mm case fans move around 10-20 CFM.
Just drawing up some front and back frames for the charcoal filters, will laser cut them out of 3mm acrylic. They will sandwich the filters between them, using a 20X20 vslot as a frame with the acrylic bolted to the extrusion, sandwiching the filters in between.
