This is my first post here, so I feel like I need to introduce myself. I am heavy DIY-er/woodworker/graphic designer, who wants to build CNC machine ( ya right ), 23y old, live in Montenegro(ex yugoslavia, balkans, serbia ) Since I am on a budget, I will make everything from mild steel (I think you guys are calling it like that). Let's say I have the right tools and skills to make that. In theory (and in 3d) I have finished table accuracy and linear motion's, the only thing that is left is the drive system. I was planning something around 800x800 - 1000x1000, Nema 23 425oz Belt's 15mm 20teeth( currently find only HTD but will look for GT3 ) 2 motors on X-axis (probably on the gantry, single belt fixed at both ends) I am concerned about using belts, because I am planning to do some hardwood jewelry, and other kind's of small jobs like engraving, sings, calligraphy,maybe some sunglasses or whateva. The thing that I am most afraid of is... lets say, I am doing some 3h cnc job, and in the middle of it something snaps (missed tooth or whateva), and I need to do it all over again and buy new piece of wood. If that happen once or twice in a year, I dont have problem at all. Or let's say, I am milling Oak, and I need to mill it at 2h speed instead of 1h, so I can get the accuracy that I need, that's also more then fine with me.
Hi Belts wont snap, especially if you go for 15mm or wider HDT3m being superior to Gt... For better results you can go double belt.. look for Bell Evermann "Belt on Belt system" on youtube. Aditionaly you could always do another belt reduction to get higher accuracy. I have posted an example here some time ago... "UE" upgrade extreme.. for inspiration. Hope that helps a little flo
