    Hi,
It's not much but I just got the openbuilds bug in January! This used to be a cluttered up corner of my basement. I'm realy liking the way the workshop is shaping up. So anet a8 is not an impressive build but it's up and running. I have my cnc control box started and on table. Other parts in the mail and finalizing a OB parts store order to be placed this weekend. I hope the sale discounts are HUGE!

I've been working on my BeTrue3D Printer the last 1-2 months - planning started in the christmas holidays, when I had a lot of fun (was bored) at my inlaws for a few days, hehe.

    From planning to exection:

I am blogging about my progress on my BeTrue3D blog: Projekter – BeTrue3D
Latest blogpost was about mounting my PEI-Coated aluminium bed
    IMG_0098.JPG

Before that, I had a huge post with lots of assembly photos, and a section dedicated for the extruders, which I've designed myself.

I'm using Duet WiFi and Duex5 for this build, where the hotend is going to be a prototype of the 5way Diamond Hotend!

Small, almost daily, update are put on my facebook page: BeTrue3D | Facebook
The build is also listed here on OpenBuilds BeTrue3D Printer but need to update it some.

    Hi Craig,

This was my first shot at it but it went fairly well. I learned a few things that I will try next time. The trick for me was to have very square stalk (I spent some time with this). I also had milled some of my spoiler board away to give me relative to the machine X and Y positioning "ledges". I had already done this when I was testing my machine's setup. Using a piece of 3/4" MDF as a spacer to accommodate for the rounded spoiler board corner, I fastened it down in the corner with a few screws. With my stalk dimensions in hand, I started working away in Fusion 360. I configured the CAM to "float" the model in the center of the stalk. After milling a series of cuts for one side, I unscrewed the stalk, flipped it over, re-fastened, then changed my origin in Fusion 360 to the inverted corner. I created new toolpaths then began milling again.

Lessons learned: I haven't built a touch plate yet and my zs were off a little bit after the flip. This was because I had to reset my TinyG after it (or I) messed something up, post flip. Theoretically, I shouldn't have had to so do this but if I had had a touch plate it would have much easier to correct / reset. I am using Fusion 360, Chillipepper and TinyG. I like Chillipepper with the exception that it seems to loose communication intermediately with the TinyG (about once every 3-4 hours but it varies). I'm not sure what is taking place but I suspect the JSON server or Chrome being pushed to it's limits. Chrome and Chillipepper get sluggish and very RAM intensive with large G-code files. I may take a swing at writing a standalone executable in the future. Mach3 doesn't support TinyG...

Another thing that I would have done differently, is cut my spoiler board to a "sharper" corner for positioning (this would remove the need of the MDF offset).

Finally, I would have waited for more end-mills to arrive in the mail. :) The smallest that I had on hand was 1/8". 1/16" or even 1mm would have made for some amazing detail. Maybe for round two in maple or walnut...

    Cheers,
    -Jamie
