Any updates on this build!? Your's and Val's I stumbled across the past day searching for large format 3d printers (and discovered openbuilds - I've been away dealing with boring life for so long!), signed up. I imported and built a Rapman back when they were the latest thing, still in working order but sadly unused now and in a corner in the shed. Now keen to start a custom build similar to yours, would love to see how it's progressing as I am sure many are. Cheers

the brackets fabricated? I noticed u are using extrusion bars are those 1.5inX 1.5in? what made you decide to have 4 Z motors? what are the dimensions? im building a large 3dprinter myself .

 

Greg, you might want to try pir foam instead of heated bed.
The print sticks beautifully, and you do away with heaters, ss relays and waiting time.

 

since we're on the subject of large printers, i am in the process of upgrading my printer from timing belts and delrin wheels for x and y, to ball crews and linear guides.
at first it looked to me like overkill, but in the long run, ball screws are better suited for long strokes.
and since i had some problems with the wheel tightening onto the v-slot rail, i figured i might as well go the whole nine yards and buy some hiwin linear guides.
got the rails, next week, my tbi ball screws will ship from taiwan, so i'm down to outsourcing the machining of the 'vitamins'.
once those are done, it's back to grease monkey for me.
can't wait.
