I'm running on a RCA Cambio Tablet, Windows 10, running at 32 bit on a 64 bit based processor, I've never had any issues with this setup...knock on wood ;)

I would have loved to use my Surface 2 tablet but you need a Surface Pro to run third party software :(

In the Actuator testing data something struck me as odd. The odds and even test results are almost identical so in reality all of the variability measured is between odd and even tests? Is this an over sight and something is driving this error or is there something in the methodology that i do not know?

My guess given the 2mm pitch lead screws is accuracy should be much better than being presented?

This is a great example of the true 3D capabilities of this little machine, it is the very thing that drew me to it in the first place

Very cool project, I cut a few very similar skulls around Halloween last year...too much fun :D

Can't wait to get my hands on one of the LED Rings...

Just be overly cautious here but does anyone have a photo of the stepper wiring? Or can confirm this one?

just find the pairs of wires then go off that. Color combos are not a standard between all motors

I'm hoping to get some help for a Fusion 360 build of the MiniMill. I'm putting one together from the OpenBuilds Part CAD library, but the lead screw isn't lining up. It looks about 3mm off, but the video and parts list call for a 3mm spacer. The attached file is where I'm at. Appreciate the help, and can't wait to build one in real life!

Not sure I can help, but I'll try to take a look at the file later tonight...

I think I've got it, your mate between the 3mm spacer and the anti-back lash nut block has the spacer seated into the counterbore. The counterbore is actual smaller ID than the spacer OD, so the spacer should nest on top of the block, not recess. You may still have a slight misalignment (1mm), I think I added a 1mm precision shim to both of those spacer (total 4mm) on all Axis!?!? I'll take a look at my machine tonight and let you know for sure...

Can a X-Large plate be used instead of a double one on the Z-axis? I understand that the handles would have to be removed. Would it make it less sturdy?

I used the XL Gantry Plate (XLP) when first testing the Minimill, it worked perfectly fine. Keep in mind the other two axis see similar loads when moving, and they utilize the XLP. I found that the XLP gave you a bit more Z movement (it's shorter than the GDP) and the fact the wheels are on the outside it will allow easy adjustment if eccentric wheels if required. The Double Gantry Plate (DGP) spreads the load out wider (taller in the case of Z-Axis) so it should be inherently more stable, although I'm not 100% sure the extra stability would be noticeable!?!? I saw no significant difference between the two.

    Regards,
    Sonny

p.s. I still ran one handle even with the XLP

Thanks for the help, Sonny! I was probably way sleepier than I thought. :banghead: Anywho, here's a close enough Fusion 360 model if anyone needs it.

Here are some updates for my minimill:

Printed some feet on vibration dampener:

Printed some limit switch mounts (X-, X+ (mirrored) and Zup):

    Printed some wire management:

I just ordered the CNC xPRO V3 for the controller :)

Does anyone have examples of their sacrificial board?

Does anyone knows why the OB spindle mount is 71mm? It doesn't seem to fit on any spindle without adding shims...

If you are looking for a router mount that fits standard spindle sizes, Brandon over at SMW3d.com has some inexpensive custom aluminum ones.

"This mount works best with the Bosh Colt Router; With some additional shimming, this mount is also compatible with the Dewalt 611 Router!"

While your 3D printing, make the shim for the 611. File is on thingverse.

As a former CBeam user, I say it's essential to use a plate with mini wheels inside and regular on the outside as well to be able to cut aluminum properly. You want to go at least 600mm/min with a single flute and .010 or more otherwise you just waste time.

Here's the plate I made for the CNC xPro, the top of the enclosure just finished printing. The hole is for a 60mm fan (50mm spacing between the holes) and I will use some 1.5 inches standoff to link them together.

If you want to use this design, here's some tips: Screw the bottom of the standoff first, then the case_bottom to the C-beam and finally the CNC xPro to the case_bottom. wire everything up and you'll be able to add the case_top and the fan. The fan uses 4 M4x20mm screws.

Yesterday I received a 400w brushless spindle motor with power supply, PWM speed control and spindle mount. The spindle is 52mm diameter and the supplied mount doesn't fit the mini mill. So I created an adapter ring that looks like it will do the job. I'll post the stl file shortly. The spindle is way quieter than any of my routers, large, medium or small.

    CNC 400W Brushless Spindle Motor ER11 & Mach3 PWM speed controller & Mount + PSU | eBay

My mini mill is looking like it's going to need it's own electronics cabinet, what with two power supplies, PWM and controller board.

What RPM range? Did you bog it down yet?

0-12,000 RPM. Haven't milled anything yet so don't know whether it will bog down.

Here's the stl file for my adapter ring:
I wrapped the outside of the spindle as well as the adapter with one layer of plastic tape to prevent slippage.

Might you be so kind as to post the stl file(s) for your endstop switch mounts? Thanks!
