I just received some Brass nuts I had made for my OX Z-Axis, they are per the Openbuilds design except the nut trap has been deleted and the holes have been tapped through with an M5 thread. Also I added a couple of 5mm dia counter bores to the top face to retain a small spring. I will probably use some dry lubricant on the screw. This will be built into my machine shortly. The Delrin nuts could probably be used the same way with some minor rework. Would like to know what people think about this arrangement
Hi @asb_79, sorry for the noob question: are both nut blocks firmly fixed or one of the two is only loosely secured with the M5 screws? Thanks / Joe.
Only one nut is fixed to the gantry with the other essentially floating. The springs will provide a preload which forces the nuts away from each other so they are always in contact with opposite faces of the threadform. In my mind the springs also have to be stiff enough to not compress under the weight of the z axis and router otherwise lash can still exist. Hope that makes sense Anthony
