Can someone explain how the micro stepping works with the DQ542MA drivers?

    The table on the drivers has 400, 800, 1600, ... Does this table assume 0.9° steppers i.e., (1/1, 1/2, 1/4)?

What do people normally use for micro stepping?

    yes, so 400 is 2x200 = 1/2 microstep (200 steps per turn is the 0.9deg step typical) 800 = 1/4 microstep..
For 8mm lead screws 1/4 to 1/8 (800 or 1600) is plenty for belts 1/16 (3200) is typical, from my experience

    I am using 1/4 on my 8mm pitch leadscrew Z and 1/8 on my 2mm pitch belts (40 steps/mm).
Happy so far. 7000mm/min rapids on X and Y and 4000 on Z.

JTBC: they ARE assuming a 200 step/revolution? This really doesn't make sense for me as then there is no 1:1 (ie. you can ONLY µstep).

I think all switches "on" would get you no micro stepping, but not sure why you would want to?

I am still having some issues with my configuration. You can see my configuration here.

Essentially, I am not finding any difference with the switches 400-1600.

Do I have something wired wrong?

There are some errors on the table you posted. By difference are you talking about the vibration? You are turning off the power when switching?

    What are the errors?

I do an emergency stop to disable the motors, then make the switch changes.

I think the power needs to be cycled for step changes to take effect, i thought this was in the manual but i don't see it now..
As for the errors, I take it back, I see now you were troubleshooting by changing settings with the same micro-steps..
What speed and pulse duration are you running and what acceleration?

Using the defaults on the Planet-CNC software. Will publish them in a bit.

    Update: added settings export.

Note that I cycled power as you suggested and observed the correct displacement with: 800 pulses/rev, 1101 SWX, & 100 SPU.

    Thankyou for the tip.

Glad it worked out, is it quiet now?
