ok i have an annoying issue when i take a stl to svg and i import it to inkscape to make a laser gcode the scale is way off i have to change it to mm in inkscape which then makes it to small then i have to resize it back to its normal mm size then change the files % to 125.4 for it to be correct size any ideas?
Your raster resolutions don't match somewhere. Check the preferences in inkscape and the other apps in your toolchain. It's probably that the SVG resolution is wrongly preset at the aspirational 96dpi and not as it should be at the trusty standard of 72. Set the resolutions to whatever you want but always make them match across the entire workflow and your artwork will stay correctly unresized and should reproduce accurately. Switching units is generally unadvised as confusing but that alone really shouldn't resize your image. 125.4 is a really weird amount to scale anything.
Lol is stumped me .When inkscape imports my svg it is importing it in px not mm that on top of the dpi issue is a pain ..its a inkscape issue for sure when i open my svg in other apps its scaled to mm i only plan to use inkscape for my laser so i might be changing some default settings to help me lol

Haha thats my old profile! But yeah, still true. I wrote Github.com/LaserWeb to ease my own CAM frustrations. Left that project to the other developers, when I joined OpenBuilds. Hopefully still helps you!

Yeah, those were the busy good old days Ps: STL - > DXF workflow, I use Jim's STL Importer to get STL into Sketchup: SketchUp STL | SketchUp Extension Warehouse Then, i clean it using Cleanup3 CleanUp³ | SketchUp Extension Warehouse And finally, copy out that flat face you need, and export it using Guitarlist DXF: Convert Sketchup SKP files to DXF or STL | guitar-list DXF into LaserWeb and setup mill operations
All this technology and still takes multiple steps lol .I cant wait till i can think it and it shows up on the pc lol
Well, your choice of STL as input adds the steps. Use DXF or draw it yourself way quicker. Cleaning someone elses file always takes longer than drawing your own, even with the learning curve
Oh yes! I can't live without it! Although now that Sketchup killed Make version in 2018 (Free version is Cloud only urrrrg) i guess i'll have to learn a new toolchain too someday. No rush though, SKP2017 should continue running for a few more years h ye
