Is it possible to use NEMA 17 motors with the C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundles?

No, mounting holes doesnt match. Also, you really need the torque on NEMA23s to push the antibacklash nuts efficiently
(PS, not really ACRO questions, considering starting a clean new thread please :))

Looking to cut out flite test planes and have no experience to the cnc world. Just looking to convert pdf plans to pdx, I believe that is the route, to cut our our park flyers for our homeschool stem program. Any suggestions on how to set the Acro system up for this? Thanks.

Can someone post up a small gcode test file that I can run on my laser? I'd like to send something and know that it is a working file.

I'm using CNC Xpro and Universal Gcode sender.

Use LaserWeb : it generates gcode from svg/dxf/bitmals so you dont need a sample file

Hey all, I built my Acro last weekend and reading through how to hook it all up and use the software so that i can start testing out the movement and such. Though i built a 3D printer and have been using it for a couple years now, this side of CNC is new to me.

Currently looking at the 2.8W from Jtech or the 2w from Opt... Hoping to make some cool gifts for Christmas this year!

Hey guys the OpenBuilds ACRO plate DXF files have been added to the Files tab on the build, hope this helps you be able to cut your modded plate sets. If you make a cool mod or remix please share with us. ACRO DXF

I modded my build, but I just can't seem to find the time to sit down and type it up. I am not quite done with the wiring yet either. I did significantly waste a portion of one Sunday evening making a logo though. Aw, who am I kidding it was totally not a waste of time. For some reason, when I first saw the "ACRO" build my brain read "ORCA" so I went with it. I hope you don't mind.

Hey all, how are y'all keeping the wires up out of the way? I know some of you are using those cable chains but for those that aren't?

    Thanks

    That's pretty slick. Thanks.

I did my first test file today without laser, just zip tied a sharpie to the plate and drew on a piece of paper... yeah i was pretty excited. LOL

I built an Openbuilds Acro (1000x500) with a 1.6watts laser, I'm using the arduino uno with the cnc shield but I'm having hard time to configure, when I press to move 1 mm moves 35 mms, does anybody with a config.h file I can use? (I think that's the file I need to change)

You need to adjust your steps/mm in your settings in the control software. Google rerap calculator.
Also what is your microstepping jumpers set at on your shield?

:) I know its a lot to take in, but reading through gnea/grbl will really empower you to tune your machine optimally: In there it explains every setting in very good detail, as well as "how to" configure it (Not in a config.h like you are used to, no, Grbl uses $-Commands - quite easy, but worth reading :)

I just built an Openbuilds Acro 55 with xPRO V3 with a 6W OPT Laser. The laser was wired exactly as openbuilds wired theirs and it is all setup. I ordered everything from openbuilds store (minus laser) so I could duplicate the build and have no issues. It is working now after several frustrations. The LaserWeb Community helped with that. I am running the latest version. The last issue that I need help with is that the path in LW is being "lasered" as well (svg files). Ariel Yahni said it is either the connection (which I have redone) or the machine profiles. I've changed settings, default settings but have not been able to not "laser" the path as well. I luckily have access to many laptops and have installed the software on several laptops and have had the same issue. I am wondering if it is a hardware issue. Is there a way to test this. Attached are the 2 pics of my connection. Please help, thanks.

Thanks to this forum, this is what I came up with for the moment. Since I do not know electronics, I bought another stepper motor from openbuilds and replaced the stock stepper motor on the z-axis (that WildBill shared) to have it just plugin like the rest of the motors.

    Best to study the documentation:

    Grbl laser mode: gnea/grbl
(NB $32 properly set in the Grbl settings , and M4 in start gcode on LaserWeb, M5 on end)
(Read the link above to understand why M4 and not M3)

But also: LaserWeb Documentation: Initial Configuration - LaserWeb / CNCWeb -> Click through to Grbl

Nothing is set in those fields. Attached is the snapshot. I will study the documentation. What settings should I be looking at that control the green line paths? Everything else looks good so far.

Thats why your gcode is incomplete, you have to set those settings, your code do not have a tool on tool off so your laser is on all the time ex. some times i use m3 or m4 depending what im doing, m5 for laser off at the end of job

Pedro, thanks for the information. I went ahead and placed an M4 on TOOL ON and M5 on TOOL OFF. That worked. I thought the green line path would automatically tell the laser to turn off since it is there when you generate the code. I now know it does not work that way. I have viewed Ariel's 2 hr. video several times but he says he did not know what those 2 sections were for. Thanks for your help and time Pedro! I really appreciate it!!!

Try not to use m5 for tool off i use m3 s10 that way the laser moves on at low power "on but doing nothing" to the next position the m5 at the end of the job. Glad to hear that is working for you.

Thanks for the update. That does sound more efficient. Do you know if it is possible turn off the fan on the OPT Laser within LW when the laser beam is not on? To clarify, no jobs running, the laser beam is off but the fan on it is still running.

At the GCode End block in the gcode settings M5 should kill the power remember also your max power is 255

I'm having issues with my opt laser 6w not putting out enough power. I am currently using the suggested parameters on the build page. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should check for. i contacted opt lasers some time ago but its been nearly a month since they have last established contact.
i can power the laser and burn paper a little bit. that's about it
