Designed it and had it made but the same shop that milled out the mini pallet for me.

Well yeah. The whole point of getting that made and that thick was to get a absolutely flat surface to re-tram the machine too. Then having the 'pegs' and the threaded positions for easy registrations and part holding. especially for duplexed parts.
I do have custom clamps and a mini vac table that can also adapt to the mini pallet.

That's an impressive tooling plate and machine! I look forward to seeing any updates of your build.

Hey folks, Can you give us the name of the company that made the ER20 collet for your dw618. I'd like to have one made too! Thanks

Ah, nevermind, I found a straight shank collet chuck with a 1/2" (12mm) straight shaft and ER16 collet. I'm going to cut it down and see what the runout is on my dw618. I'll post results.

I have been forced to down grade from my larger CNC 4 axis mill and plan to build my own smaller one based on the great projects I find here including this one.

Can I ask what kinds of tolerance you are able to hold on the router based router table style mills? Thanks!

Have you ever measured your backlash?

I like your build, very well done!
I was drawn to this build because you're using Machinekit with BBB. I'm thinking of abandoning my current system as un-salvageable (Shapeoko V2 with BBB/Linuxcnc/BBB-DB25 Cape/Chinese 4Axis driver) but I think the BBB Rev C SHOULD be a good CNC controller with the trajectory and PID calculated in the PRU.

My new system will replace the driver board with DM556 & M542 drivers coupled to the BBB through a custom cape. I'm also beefing up the power supply to 48V.

Finding the Open Builds site was a revelation and I'm sorely thinking of chucking the Shapeoko mechanics altogether and replacing it with something akin to what you've done. I do mostly woodworking/plastics, but would like to be able to do Aluminum (once I can get my head around dealing with oily chips flying around my workshop).

Would you be willing to post your configuration .ini and .hal files? This would be a good sanity check against what I've done with my various incarnations...
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

You should really consider getting these mass produced and sold on here. I'd definitely buy them.

Also, where do I get the spindle mount? Is it the one from CNCRouterparts?

    Yup from CNCrouterparts.

As far as mass-produced, That one pallet cost me over 200 bucks. The guy that machined the one said I'd have to buy over 100 to get a good deal. At any rate, I've migrated away from that mill. The work it's done (combined with my larger CNC) has allowed me to upgrade to a proper mill.
