    High prices are not indicative of quality or performance, but usually of the size of the organisation.

    I worked for a company that had an electronic data switch that sold for 20k pounds, that was eventually put out of business by a couple of smart boys with some microcomputer-controlled wizardry costing about $1200.

    300 jobs gone, multi-million pound stockholdings evaporated, all because they sat on their laurels and thought they were the only game in town.

    I've no doubt that PCI board is the absolute tits, but without seeing what it can do and how it would compare with one of the newer 9-channel/axis 'open' boards, I'm not going to get weak-kneed at the thought of a $1000+ controller. That's the old school - welcome to the new school ;)

    What about a RPi and then tunnel a serial/usb through ssh, then connect your controller to the RPi?
