Update:im about 50% done with a current parts list. That in its self has been a learning proccess.

 

Im going to be using some flavor of nema 23's . right now i have a couple 90oz motors. but for the Z I think ill use at least 144oz.

 

Ive uploaded a Parts List for Items i got from Openbuilds and Im working on another that list some of the items you have to get other places

 

Thanks so much for the comment and suggestions. The plug was a nightmare i ended up failing the first time. The trick on getting it done for me was the white hear shield it allowed me to just get in there and not worry about melting jackets.
And i agree with with you after doing a little more research 90s i dont think are gonna cut it.

 

Ive updated the build with some thing i did today if anyone is interested

 

Ive added a basic 3d model of the H-style CNC

 

I was going to use a rack and pinion but money was my ultimate factor. to get a rack as long as my machine it was to much money. so the next thing closest was a belt. i use sketchup right now for model creation but im learning 360 and i plan on using mach4 because its integration with pokeys.

 

So today i realized that using the pokeys board im going to have to rethink all of my wiring specifically the awesome 24 pins aviation plugs, how can i incorporate them? Stay tuned to find out

 

They are about 11 pounds with my current nema 23 it is . im looking into getting some bigger ones i found a deal on some 570oz that should do the job

 

Well my grand plans of using affim to get the rest of my electronics motors, drivers, switches fell through. turns out that i cant just take one large loan id have to take a small one out for each store i wanted to use. and it would be a seperate payment for each.
so looks like im stuck with these 90oz. paitence is a virtue ill have to save up to get my drivers. ive been looking at the postep60-256 to go with my pokeys57cnc.

 

I decided to buy most of what i need to get this beast moving and a few changes.
Motors: I decided on 570oz nema 23 5 amp bi-polar motors
Drivers: im going to Use Postep60-256
msc: Relay boards 12&24, PokeysCnC keyboard, pulse encoder,switches,wire,enclosure,power supply's,usb isolator,usb hub,din rails, din mounts metal&plastic,aluminum for custom panel,various panel plugs.
Upgrades: Im going to try using the openbuilds reducion/stand off plates for my Z axis.
Im going to attempt to make a mound for the motors that will run an encoder on the Z Axis

First of all thank you for your interest in my build.
The frame it self is strong and i dont see why i wouldnt work for a 4kw spindle.But i would look into trying a larger screw Im not entirely sure what the maximum load on these 3d printer type screws and brass nuts.
I was thinking of looking into ball screws for the z at some point. this would increase the load. But converting to screw drive/ball is possible and the machince itselfe should withstand the forces.
tomorrow most of my electronics should show up and within a week the new motors.
Get back with me on the weight of the spindle i know there 20-30 lbs for a 4kw , and ill throw some weight up on the gantry and see how she moves.

 

with an exact part list i could see this machine with the electronics ive chosen to be around 4,000
But the frame itself was around 700. then the table was overly bult and was around 500. plus hardware and wire wheels bearings and the little nick nacks like the extruded aluminum boxes for wire terminals.
Ive gone above the norm with the electronics in my opinons using automation grade power supply, proper plug,s shielding, emi/rfi filtering, optocoupling and a fully customized controller pokeys. with driveres and that can be tuned Its pretty good stuff but certainly not the best.
Point is there is a lot of room with the electronics. if you cheap out you could build this machines for 2k done.
If you have everything you can put this machine togeather in 2 or 3 days.
Its take me over a year mainly because i had no direction and built it as i went.

 

Not in my build but its simple to add another motor on top if needed u can just copy whats on bottom but i have my x with 2 570 oz steppers .

I call it h style because the z axis is the entire gantry the whole thing gose up and down. Instead z just for the tool.
Im sure theres better things to call it but thats what just came to mind haha
