I'm planning on building one of the OX-Metal machines, have started ordering parts and have 2 questions:
    1) Does a CAD 3D solid model of the top level assembly exist that can be downloaded? Would be very helpful for those of us just getting into this. (Solidworks, Invertor, .step or .iges would be great)
    2) It appears that there are two steppers driving the Y axis? I plan on using TB6600 drivers with Mach 3. I assume that you simply wire two drivers in parallel for the Y axis?
    Thanks in advance!

What size spindle are you using? How big of a spindle do you think can go on the ox metal?

What cnc do you have? I am making a ox metal just like in video (same size) and am not sure how big of spindle I can put on it. What would you recommend?

I've researched CNC Routers for some time. When I realized I could make my own to make the projects I wanted to make it was a no brained to go with your build example. Since building my own for cheaper I'll be able to also get a low cost 3D printer as well and plan on printing my parts for the build. My question is what type of material did you use for these parts on the Ox Metal?

    Thanks

I used PETG with 100% infill. For me, this turned out better than when I tried ABS.

    Hi Mike,

Sorry for the (really) late reply : I missed your post.

I designed built my own machine. I felt that the OX wasn't rigid / strong enough for my intended use (steel & alum). I went with ballscrews / linear rails on all axis. You can find more details on my website CNC Milling Machine

    Regards,

    Eric G.

I already have the original OX and thinking of upgrading it.
Has anybody already made a list of what you need to source to upgrade an original to the OX Metal?
I will try and figure that out, but if a list is already created that would save some time

I did. But I don't want to build the entire machine, just upgrade

Just subtract out the parts you have. Basically all he did was 3d print some parts, added some bearings, lock collars, lead screws, and anti-backlash nuts.

Yes I know, and I will figure it out. But the question was if anyone has done it before me. Like a "Parts list for upgrade only"

Giarc has it right. Leadscrews, bearings, lock collars, couplers and the printed parts are basically the difference between the two, along with the appropriate m5 screws and tee nuts. But as someone who's built one and found the 3D printed parts lacking, look at DazTheGas's upgrade with aluminum plates. https://openbuilds.com/projectresources/ox-upgrade-kit.241/update?update=386

OK I have a good start at putting it all together but the 8mm bearings are very tight on the lead screws. In the video they just slip right on. This is the only thing holding me up from slapping this thing together. Any ideas to fix this? I have 2 sets of bearings from 2 different suppliers and both are too tight. Thanks
