I am new to this and I am not sure what stepper motors to choose . I want to build a 4x8 cnc router and still want to be capable of cutting aluminum but mostly wood.
I guess it depends on your budget, I would suggest the high torque nema 23 steppers found here: NEMA 23 Stepper Motor - High Torque Series
Would that be one I wouldn’t have to upgrade from ? Meaning more than plenty enough power, I would rather have more than I need rather than not enough!
It is not really a question of power, but more a question of torque. The Steppers mentioned above, are ideal because they have lots of "power", but more importantly, they have a middle and wider, range of torque, giving a wider range of suitability. i.e. Great for wood and alumimium.
Ok that makes sense, I guess reading different peoples thoughts on them have kinda got me second guessing myself. A lot I have read says they go for the higher ounce for better torque but I will go with these. Thank you for your time and knowledge!
My NEMA 23s are 269 oz and I cut aluminum just fine on an 850 mm by 1500 mm screw driven ox variant. That being said, had these been available when I made my puchases, I would have gone with high torque ones in the link mentioned above.
And just as important as the motors is the proper drivers for the motors, that can deliver the current needed.
