I want to design a 3D printer for my final project of my drafting degree. I'm not sure what print head or where to really look for one. I want accuracy and reliability in the extrusion head. thanks for your time.
I have this one on my 3D printer and it works well: http://reprap.org/wiki/J_Head_Nozzle If I had to change I would change for this one: http://e3d-online.com/E3D-v6/v6-1.75mm-Universal
I looked at both of those links and I really like the e3d-V6. I should be satisfied with that for a long while given all it can print. Do I need to find or design a feeder for this too or should I just buy one already built?
I would say to print one by yourself... You'll have to find someone that can print it for you I think What will be your printer? There are some design available on www.thingiverse.com
Which version of the E3D V6 would you recommend for the most versatility and accuracy? I was thinking the 1.75mm universal would give me the broadest material printing options.
I purchased a E3D V5 and then bought the parts necessary to upgrade to a V6. Love the head. Also buy several tips for the printer because it makes it easier to change the tip if it gets jammed buy less than quality filament. It can happen I know. It was not a deal that I thought it was. It was a simple matter to remove and replace the tip which allowed me to clean out the head. If you want to purchase the print head that is based upon a "Greg's Hinged Accessible Extruder" you can find it here: http://www.makerfarm.com/index.php/3d-printer-kits/greg-s-hinged-accessible-extruder.html I don't own the company or work for them just a satisfied customer. I have a build here that uses that specific extruder here: http://www.openbuilds.com/builds/bobs-3d-printer-kit-build.651/ Bob
so now that I have decided to go with the e3d v6...Which version is recommended? 1.75mm or 3mm? Direct or Bowden? I don't know which one to choose...I have an idea what does what but not 100%...I'm thinking about doing a dual extruder as well...
1.75mm direct for sure! I had a dual extruder and never used it. Most of the time I just don't care what color are my projects.
It's not the color that I would be mainly using it for it would be either dual material or print with support material. like phone case that's soft / flexible around the phone then hard / rigid on the outside as an example... Why do you recommend the 1.75mm over the 3mm anyways? I'm curious because I really want to learn as much as possible about 3D printers and how they work. I'm building this for a final project for my drafting degree. I also love to design things and would love to be able to build them quickly and efficiently. Direct - right on top of the hot end - correct? Bowden - remote filament feeding / from a distance like closer to the spool- correct? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
I would love to be able to print Carbon Fiber and Kevlar like these guys... https://markforged.com/ ...that filament is high dollar...
