I am having an issue with some openbuilds lead screw anti-backlash nut blocks. They are so tight on the lead screw I can not turn them with nema17 stepper motors. Any ideas how I can fix this?
Hi Anthony, Is this with the tension screw completely loose? Is this with it bolted in place? Sometimes the two bolts holding it in place to the plate can be too tight. Is the lead-screw also from openbuilds? There are some differences among manufactures of the screws, not all compatible. Gary
Can you check the diameter of the lead screw to see if they got an out of spec lot? Openbuilds screws run 7.76 to 7.80mm whereas most commercially available screws run 7.97 to 8.0mm.
*Openbuilds screws are intentionally rolled smaller to eliminate the need for sanding in order to get 8mm bearings mounted on the ends.
Or, if you have extra, make a tap out of a short length and clean out the nut threads. You could probably even just use the end of an axis since the nuts never reach the end when mounted.
I put the block on the screw, chucked it in a drill an ran it at high speed up and down about a hundred times. It is now moving smoothly.
