An all metal construction cartesian style 3D printer with a very rigid frame that has the flexibility to function as a desktop milling station or laser cutter with appropriate user designed attachments. Design is scaleable to suit any size requirement. All axis are leadscrew driven. V-Slot and Mini V-wheels have been utilised for the linear rails.

    I like the look of the printer. I have an Ordbot and don't really have any problems with it but do think it could be better with a sturdier frame.
    I'm a little confused how you plan to drive the Z axis with one stepper though. It looks like you have it set up for 2 steppers. 1 stepper off to the side seems like you would run into issues without proper support on the other side.

    The gantry will be supported by a screw on each side. The z-axis leadscrews will be connected to each other by a belt and a couple of pulleys.

    this looks like a very well thought out design. are you planning on making any dxf files for the hardware.

    Hi,

    I have attached the dxf's for the plates I had cut, the colour represents the thickness used. Yellow = 3mm; green = 4mm, blue = 6mm if you want to use two z motors just make two of the motor mounting plates.

    The plates that support the ends of the leadscrew should have a small machined recess to locate a bearing. I haven't made any detail drawings but am able to provide a solid model if you need to see more detail.

    The screws I used would be too slow for a 3D printer (only 12mm lead) so I parked the project. I will eventually just mount a rotary tool to it and use it as an engraver.

    I like the design of your framing. Similar to the MendelMax 3.0.
    What is your solid model format? Did you use steel guide wheels or a bearing with a plastic "tire?

    @BigD, I used ProE to model this machine.

    The linear movement runs on mini v-wheels.
