Yes cool design. you just solved some of my problems with your design. Pls did you test it ? Do you beleive it could work also in biger dimensions such us 1500 mm the Y axis and 750 mm the X axis ?
Hi DelMar, No, it´s just in the design phase. No tests so far. Extending the lenght should be not so critical, extending the gantry will add weight. That might cause problems at higher accelerations. Also the elongation of the belt could cause higher tolerances. But i thing it depends on the application and you needs. Frank
Hi Frank. I really didn't think so about the tolerances of the belt. What if I use acme screws and nuts at X and Z axis and belt for Y . You think will be more accurate ? And what about the acceleration ? You think would be ok to use the nema 23 to all axis? As about the use is for woodworks mostly and some small alou parts . But thanks anyway for your time.
Yes I finally made a bigger one gantry based on a special alou profil of 40 by 40 mm with 1600 mm long and using the openrails that could be send to me on a length of 1500 mm , I do have a working space of 1354 mm by 1354 mm and it works fine. Now I am working on changing the electronics just to use the EMC2 , because my next project is to add auto tool zeroing and prompting for center point. The gantry is still belt driven except z axis , and I use 4 NEMA23 with 262 oz inch.
Hello DelMar63 I am interested in this design because I had basically the same idea then I found this. Would like your insight on the design. How did the spunks cam design work out any issues? what electronics are you using now? Id love to see that huge machine you should post pics or a vid.
I will try maybe this weekend but in fact I never posted a pic or vid so I have to find out how I can do this. Are there any instructions on that somewhere ? Maybe I have to use these icons I see above. I'll see. Thanks any way
I made a video and I will upload to youtube soon In the previus photo instead of a spindle i use an airpresure drill
That's original, and does it work well? Never thought of using an air driven drill! Can you use the, so called used air, to keep the work area clear as well? By choice? Gray
not only clear but cooling too the cutting tool on hard materials second there are not any noise from source power that sometimes trigger the alarm on UGS and then all work done must begin from the begining except if you edit ngc file cutting the lines . also can be used electromagnetic valve to open /close the air supply
What sort of compressor are you using? What do you think would be the minimum sized tank and pressure to run the drill? Gray
that one i use for aluminium cuttings is a simple 250 lts with one phase curent but i don't remember how many lts per minute the motor can provide. but in fact the consumption looks more than the motor can provide so i regulated the presure and now works fine with slower rotation . It doesn't bother me because this drill works up to 22000 rpm
This is the other setup i use for cutting woods and here follow my very first video i made working for my first project.
Can you give us a better look at your work clamps. They look interesting. I see you have supports on your Y axis. Is that black strengthener you have bolted to the aluminium? You're using pretty narrow ali' stuff there, aren't you? Works well though, doesn't it. Gray
It works very fine for me. I made two of that project and they are identical . I don't see any black support at Y axis. All the black you see bolted to the alouminium , are the openrails , as about the clamps , they simply are metal corner I use for wooden constructions
Yes of course, the Openrail bolted to the side like that, has given it great strength. Certainly far stronger than a piece of V Slot of the same dimensions. Cheers Gray
Not at all. The openrails are very thick and also very soft . If you unscrew 2 or 3 screws and you push just a little bit you will see how easy it moves even at both directions. The alouminium I use is very strong I will upload a vertical section of it today.
Hi Chris, So far no progress because i had so much to do on my house and in the garden during summer time. Everytime when i come back to this site my fingers are itching to start this project. So much to do.... regards Frank
hi Frank, This is very very interesting concept. I would like to adopt this one for my peronal purposes. Are the drawings available for modifications? (btw. solidworks??)
