Looks beefier, I like the replaceable fuses!

@Michael Any advancements to the way acceleration is handled? I especially like the s-curve acceleration introduced by Syntheos in the tinyG board. Mainly for how it addresses acceleration and deceleration for beefier gantry during moves.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what's the biggest motors I can use with this board? I have a Workbee 1510 that I'm converting to acme screws and want to upgrade my motors as well.

Also, what is "Spindle Diretion"? :)

The standard nema 23 on the openbuilds partstore would be the biggest I would go, since these would underdrive those motors by a little bit.

If you use a spindle (not a router like the dewalt) you can change the direction. I've used this function on a big cnc mill to turn the opposite direction when drilling holes, it helps to throw off material that builds up on the endmill.

    Thank you.

btw - I was referring to "direction" being misspelled on the board.

sharmstr: I think it was simply abbreviated so as to fit in the Artwork. :)
arcrunner: I've not heard of, or considered the idea, of reversing the spin of a spindle to clear the swarf out. Interesting.

Jump to 2:10 for a look at how it works, kind of satisfying to be honest.

arcrunner: Much beefer, much easier to setup and get going too!

Rob: GRBL is running a bang-bang acceleration management style while looking ahead for velocity changes. The S curve accelerations are typically done using brute force and may not always produce a converging solution resulting in loss of steps. Theres a write up of how GBRL manages acceleration here (gnea/grbl) with more info in the linked article - you know, if you need some light reading material ;).

sharmstr: congratulations sir, you now hold the honor of generating the most creative swearing heard in southern Ohio... good catch and yes they went to production that way - proof we are engineers i suppose. Expect a prize soon. On to your actual question, the 2.8A drivers on OB are a good threshold for a max for the on board drivers. However, you can source higher torque motors with lower amps or there is the option to wire in external drivers. Our boards run many screw driven workbees.

GrayUK: Excellent answer! It's all about the artwork lol!

So these can still control external drivers? Sorry, I couldn't see where the pins or solder points were for external drivers.

I haven't gotten that part of the post up yet, but we broke all the signals out to screw terminals so no crimping or soldering. Also have a Motor Voltage output terminal too so you can run on board and externals easily from same supply (current limited by output blade fuse)*

This is really good news! My V3 just gave up on me (basic idiotic user error). So, I'm in the marked for a new one. Ready to order a V4. @Michael, want to share anything more about when it's possible to order one?

    Decisions decisions

Can’t decide between Spark Concepts Xpro V4 or the Openbuilds Blqckbox CNC. On paper they have similar specs.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Rob,
Depends on if you plan on using bigger nema23 motors or not, the xPro can do 1.75A (2.5A peak) per channel where as the BB can do 3.25A (4A peak).
    Cheers
    Gary

@Gary Caruso I can see that the BB will be somewhat more expensive than the Xpro given the extra AMP handling, the case and a few other differences. Do you know yet the price of the BB or at least a range?

Is it possible to post a drawing of the board with dimensions? Mostly interested in proper dimensions to model up a case.

Thanks Mark - couldn't do it without you guys!

Steven, sure thing! .step and .sldasm (solidworks) models are now loaded in the file section. Let me know if you need or want something different

Sad statement but I don't have the 2018 solidworks. :-(
Any chance to re-save the file in the 2017 or earlier format? Also, when openning .step i SW, i get invalid geometry statement.

Solidworks competing with Autodesk Fusion 360

Hopefully this helps, basically you can get solidworks 2018-2019 educational edition for free right now.

Anyone know how many amps the 0-5 volt spindle speed can deliver?

20mA - its a logic signal only. Cannot drive anything directly: you need a spindle/motor controller

Hi Bob/Peter, the spindle output will be limited to 100ma by a thernal fuse for both 0-5V and 0-10V settings. As Peter mentioned if driving a spindle you will need a spindle drive controller but for other projects you have up to 100ma to play with

    Good Day,
Anybody got the Xpro V4 and Bluelink (Bluetooth Cable Replacement LInk) working with ESTLcam ? Does not seem like ESTLcam likes the Bluelink :(

Just to update, have it all working.
The DC-DC converter the spindle speed output was controlling went bad. Replaced with a new DC buck and all works well.
    Thanks.

I'd like to report success upgrading my Acro Laser 511 to V4. After adjusting pots from max to about the middle, the NEMA 17 are running nice cool and I was able to successfully complete about 15-20 hours forth of laser cutting with ease. xPro V4 is one great product!

Just want to let know that I did contact Christian who is the creator of Estlcam and unfortunately is estlcam not compatible with the bluelink.
