I bought the 8 mm lead screw ( http://openbuildspartstore.com/8mm-metric-lead-screw-acme/ ) and the matching (?) nut ( http://openbuildspartstore.com/8mm-acme-nut-block/ ) for my Z axis. Wow, the nut is super tight on the lead screw. It is so tight it is barely movable by twisting it with my hands, the motors will never be able to drive this. This can't be right. Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something here? Grease? Do they "wear in" over time or something?
I had the same and it just worked perfectly and it was very smooth ... maybe an unfortunate defective nut?
All is well. I put the acme screw in a drill and ran th nut back and forth for a while. It seems great now.
Glad to hear you sorted this out @Rick in Tallahassee I know that from the tapping proceed sometimes there is a little debris that get left in the tap thread and these and cause the threads to be tight. So running it back and forth with he drill is a great idea that may have helped to get these out. Thank you for posting the update Mark
Maybe the OpenBuilds team can do what Rick did, prior to shipping them out ? I'm right there, in the build sequence, now. and it does seem very tight. fingers crossed. I'll let you know.
I also experienced a very tight Anti-Backlash Nut Block. Impossible to turn by hand, but using the drill works
