In my latest build, I'm driving some of the OpenBuilds high-torque NEMA 23 steppers with a 12v supply and an xProV2 board. I've noticed that they seem to run really smooth at high speeds (5000 mm/min) but very rough on low speeds (250 mm/min). On low speeds, there is audible vibration. Is this normal? Or is there some setting I ought to change? I could change the microstepping setting, increase the voltage of the power supply, or maybe even change the controller board. Any suggestions? -D
Hi Jonathon, Reading the discussion indicated by Rick 2.0 I have found pots about how to configure the maximum speed and acceleration, but not about the problem at low speeds. Have you solved the problem? Now I have this problem and I don't know if it's normal or not. If you need more information, tell me! Thanks in advanced!
I think it is normal for steppers, especially at low voltages. I eventually 'fixed' this problem by upgrading to dedicated power controllers and running my steppers at 48v. But this continues to be the case on my machines that I drive at 12 volts.
