    Will do. The instructions look like they are there. None of the pictures or the parts list seem to indicate it, tho.

    No, I believe I saw in the assembly instructions that all the plugs were included.

    I've seen laser raster projects using GRBL.. there are laser settings, and raster is no problem.
    3D carving and high speed "adaptive" type cutting is more complex movement wise than raster which GRBL also can do no sweat.
    It just takes software to make the cam.

    Cheers

    The IOT relay box should be relatively easy to build. All you'd need is a short power strip to cannibalize and a solid state control relay like the SSR-25DA or 40DA if you really want to move some current through it. The power strip is for the surge protection, otherwise you'd want to put a MetalOxide Varistor across the mains and probably some sort of fuse. Hmm...maybe I should start a build page for this...

    It may seem like it is simpler to raster, but the controller does not see it this way. To raster at 300mm/s , at a .1mm dot size, the controller must be able to process 3000 gcode instructions per second, which is beyond the capability of an 8 bit arduino processor.

    It should, standard Atmega328, standard grbl pinout. One of the advantages of sticking to tried and trusted: all the old recipes still work... Just cleaner, stronger and better

    If I used an ESP8266 could I get Blackbox to communicate wifi? ( a-la LaserGRBL) Has anyone done this with Openbuilds Control? I mean has anyone of your mad scientists back there tested this with Openbuilds Control? :cool:

    Natively no (no telnet support in the software at is time) but with a 3rd party telnet to virtual serial port app you should be able to

    Virtual serial port tunnel (to use with ESP-Link) | Hackaday.io

    Cool. It's just that I have all these little wifi boards leftover from IOT projects I thought I might use one to make my Blackbox wireless. You know, cut the cord. ;) Will look into the tcp to comX tunnel server. Just figured there might already be something built into Control app that can connect to the ESP8266 websocket library. Blackbox talks to the Cam website, right? Trying to get an Arduino with GRBL1.1f to talk to it but no can do. Maybe I should restart.:thumbsup:

    I have a Sherline CNC mill with a dead controller PC. Would this provide a good path to get it running again? If so, what else would I need? The old controller ran LinuxCNC and required a parallel port. USB would be much more convenient. Keeping LinuxCNC would not be a requirement.

    Now that you mention it i think with all the Blackbox prep i missed the certificate expiry date on the control-cam https side. Hold tight will post updated Control version today (usa working hours) with newly minted certificates... Sorry :)

    If it runs bipolar steppers, with +-3v coil rating, 1-3a current rating, yes it will work.

    Read the documentation at docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox

    You need a PSU (links to buy at the top of the relevant documentation pages) and Limits

    @NthAxisWorkshop here you go OpenBuilds/SW-Machine-Drivers - v 1.0.145 has fresh new certificates, the old ones expired on the 24th! My bad, first time I missed it but hey (; with all this awesome Blackboxing (hey I just invented a new word! lol) you can't really blame me right (;

    Hey Pete, thanks man! Integrates perfectly now. I like the direction yall are going with CAM-OB.com Suggestions for the page...? Maybe a link on the CAM page to the forum thread so one can drop a suggestion or feature request or to just give yall the props yall deserve. Thanks again for all the hard work guys!

    I would get the Black Box. It has more powerful drivers for the same price. Especially if you use the high torque motors.

    Can you guys throw up a comparison page of the boards. Would help. I bought a Lead system off Ebay (from an OB Forum member I suspect), it is coming with the Xpro V4. Would be nice to know the exact differences in a side by side comparison to determine whether I should try to sell the V4 and pickup a Blackbox.

    Something like this would be helpful for sure. I've got the BlackBox in my cart and since this is my first machine I'm super torn on what the best choice is. A good comparison would be ideal.

    Since you already have it, it is good enough (was the primary control choice for years around here) that you need not worry unless it gives you problems (;

    I'm sure it's exceptionally obvious to those here who have experience with these machines. It's not so obvious to someone getting out to purchase and build their first CNC router. Read the threads, the descriptions, the docs, okay but what really sets this apart?

    There was a comment a few posts back about the measuring the stepper output and dialing that in. The response was really about how this board is informed by years of OB supporting these issues for newbies. That was a helpful bit of information buried in a thread. Also why it's in my cart now and not the v4. There is a lot of read the docs, did that, but what makes this stand out as better (or not) for a first build?

    It's just like buying a new car. You read the specs, compare the offerings, prices, capabilities, looks, accessories, etc, and make an informed decision based on the available data. You don't have to be an expert on cars to do this. Chevy owners will always buy a Chevy, even if all their friends drive Fords. There is always a random element of brand loyalty, or some other mitigating factor.

    If you don't understand some of the parameters, do some research and find out what they mean. In any case it will be useful information down the road. Education is never a bad thing. Also, you can ask on the Forums, that's what they are here for. But don't expect others to make your decision for you.

    It all boils down to YOU doing your homework and making a decision based on YOUR requirements. Other people's opinions can be weighted and taken into account, but ultimately it's your money, you have to determine how best to spend it.

    I've ordered one just to have a play with (Should be here tomorrow according to tracking)

    I have enough spares in my workshop to rig something up and see how it plays compared to my usual setup (I currently run an Arduino with 4 DQ542MA Drivers on High Torque Steppers so will be a nice comparison)

    24v? I have a Blackbox on the way and want to compare with my same set up as you but I'm running 48v.
