looks great.. so to understand a little more about the linear rails. they bolted up to the v slot rail (20x40?) with insert nuts or did you have to drill into the v slot rail
Hey slm222 : Yes, its a 20x40mm v-slot. The mounting holes on the linear rail were just a bit closer together than the centers of the v-slot, which are 20mm, I think they were about 19mm or so. Odd hole spacing, just enough so I could not get a screw into a t-nut in the slot. Come to think of it, maybe they were 3/4", which is pretty close to 19mm. Doesn't make much sense for them to be inch spacing, when everything else was metric... Anyway, I did not modify the v-rail. I solved the problem by drilling out the mounting holes on the linear rail as much as I could without breaking through the edge. They were 5mm to start out with, I think I drilled them out to about 5.6mm or so. This gave just enough extra width clearance so a standard low profile screw would go through the hole and into a regular t-nut.
@Metalguru again just want to jump in here to say what a great job you have done on this Build and the helpful mods that really makes this machine be the best it can be.
Metalguru, What do you use for clamps. With the T slot on perimeter of the table there doesn't seem to be any place for a clamp to gain leverage on its back side.
Made my own out of wood. Just a 1" wide strip of baltic birch plywood with a slot and a groove on the end. They sit on top of the angle on the bed, and the bolt provides reasonable clamping force. You can make them various lengths. I also use fender washers on the bolts, and all kinds of other jury rigged gizmos depending on my needs. Mostly, for wood I use double sided tape. MG
Thanks, I have used your build as a guide on the modifications to my XL and found that my previous clamps would not provide the clamping ability I had previously.
Feel free to relocate the tee track anywhere you like to make your clamps work. The build is only a suggestion, modify it to suit your situation. MG
