Hello All, This is my first post on the forum and I'm a total Noob; so here goes. I've been looking at building my first CNC machine and am vexed between the Shapeoko 2 and the OX route. The "Brick S@#t House" side of me says go OX all the way since it just looks so much beefier, and I always over-engineer all of my projects. Anyway, has anyone on here built both machines that can lend me some advise as to which road to travel? I'm talking to Chris Laidlaw to cut me all of the machined parts which seems to take the OX even up one more step. Any advice or contrast you guys could add would be very much appreciated. I want this mostly as a hobby CNC but would like to cut both wood, aluminum and acrylic if that helps in the decision. Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a Shapeoko 2 and it is good for cutting your teeth with CNC and the processes, but ultimately you want an OX. The Shapeoko 2 cutting area is so small (roughly 11.5"x 11.5"), if that fits your needs, then the OX is overkill.
If you're gonna be a bear...be a grizzly. Or in this case...an OX. I think the term OpenBuilds probably should answer your question. I looks at both and considered how much space I had, and went Large OX. Take the red pill, Neo

I can't really compare the two but what I can say is I started small and ended up big. The small sat and collected dust before be dissected
