Where do you find the "Z Probe Wizard"? I use OpenBuilds Control and have read several post here about it but can't seem to find where it is.
Hit me up if you need help setting up and X,Y,Z probe macro. You'll need a probe block like the one in the picture.
When I use "Probe Z0 Wizard", the bitl comes down slow then touches as it is supposed to. That's it. Then it askes if I want to raise bit. I answer yes and the bit raises. Then after disconnecting the probe I use the selection to "Goto Z0 (Work Coord)(G0Zo)". The Z "Bit" goes down as expected, but when I look close it is 1 to 2 mm above the work surface. I thought it should be just touching the work surface? Also is it functioning properly at first by only lowering Z (bit) and just touching the probe and then just stop. Shouldn't it go through a touch, retract, touch again then retract again? Or is that a program (gcode) that has to be written? My main concern is that after using the probe Wizard it doesn't touch the work surface when command given above is executed. I used calipers to measure my probe plate, so I know I've got the thickness entered right in Probe Wizard setup.
Can grab me a screenshot of your Probe window (with all the values you enter) (Want to run it here with the same just to check) and then a screenshot of the Serial Log tab showing all the probing action
As requested here is a screenshot of probe setup and probe command, command to retract then commend to go to work zero. I measured the distance from the work surface and the bit and it was .66 to .67mm.
The wizard is sending all the right commands. So must be something mechanical: - loose lead nuts - loose motor couplers - loose VWheels - wiggle the machine and see if you find any backlash
I went and checked the above and all were secure. I then went into Grbl settings and looked at $102. Mine was set to 188.976 (z, step/mm). I went through the calculation setup and it wanted to setup setting to 200.000 (z, step/mm). That was a little too tight. So I looked at the print out for WorkBee 1010 Grbl Settings from the web site and it shows the setting to at 199.100 (z,stemp/mm). That was the golden sweet spot. Now it is dead on. Setup a XYZ Touch Probe with a CNC xPro Controller At the bottom of the page there are two docs. One that explains the probe code and one that helps you calculate the correct values to put in the code. Note: You will need to change 2 things. 1 - In the code, replace all semi-colons with new lines. 2 - Add G90 to a new line at the very end. Let me know if you have any questions.
OK, I just installed my blackbox and downloaded Openbilds control and got everything communicating and tested motion and all that. M question is; in Openbuilds Control if i click Wizard & Tools i see the flattening Wizard, mobile widget, the x,y,z steps calibrators,flashing tool but NO Z Probe wizard. How do I add in the z probe wizard or what do i turn on so it will appear? I know I can add a Z Probe macro in the add macros feature below BUT not sure what macro to put in so it will go beyond just stopping dead at the probe and not doing anything else. please how do i add the built in wizard?? and are there any others that may be optional that I can add? Thank you for your time. Love the Blackbox by the way ELEGANT!! So much nicer than an arduino burrowed into the center of a rats nest of wires.
NM, of course it is to the right of the Z Coord. in the dropdown as it should be. I just got done with night shifts and must be more tired than I thought.
In your "screen shot" see the area where you have the Red "X" , Green "Y" and Blue "Z" ? To the right of each is a drop down arrow. Click the drop down arrow for the "Z" and that's where you will find the "Z" probe function . Hope that helps.
Probing is in relation to an axes, therefore its under the arrow to the right of the Z-axis DRO (context specific) The Wizards and Tools menu relates to things disconnect from the running state of things (global context)
hi I just installed a new blackbox. I have a probe block to set xyz. Did I undertand that you have a solution (macro) to use my block. (it’s not a openbuilds block). thanks
Not anymore: Just select Custom under Probe Type Click the Gears icon next to that after selecting Custom, then setup your offsets
I built a z probe out of a piece of aluminium. The distance is 18.00 mm. In probe I select the z probe, go to advanced and set the distance manually to 18mm and go to probe and everything works great. The problem is that it doesn't remember the setting. the next time I go to calibrate again it shows 20mm. It there any place where I can go and change the setting? If I go to probe and I don't set the 18mm when I send the spindle back to 0,0,0 it will crash the z by 2mm. Thank you for the great software.

Thank you for replying so quickly. Now I checked again and it stored the 18mm value. What it doesn't keep is the Jog Rate, it always shows up 4978.40 mm/min but is not a big deal. I can change it to anything and it stays that way until I close the program. When I opened the java console, it maximizes de program and when I close it, the program stays maximized. There is no icon on the top right corner to resize it back to a window. I just double click the top bar to go back to the windowed mode. I'm new to all this CNC stuff and this is the best program I found (free) to control my machine. Thank you for the great program. I'm using an Arduino with the GRBL shield ver 3.5. I had to use pin 11 to control the spindle and pin 12 for the z endstop. It is known that they were swapped as thepin 12 doesn't have PWM.
Hi - I have the black box controller and the xyz probe. I am trying to maximise my work area and am wondering if there is a way to reduce the start distance of the probing on the x and y? I am hitting my end stops when probing on x and y. Note the pull of distance is fine but this is too close to start probing.
For really tight jobs it might be better to just use jogging+setzero to set XY, and you can probe Z0 anywhere on the stock
