Full Human Body Scanner can scan entire Human Body or object of same size. This scanner produces a highly detailed 3D scan model of scanned Object.

Full Human Body Scanner creates detailed replication of any human being/Object via 3D scanning technology by conducting detailed scans of human bodies or faces, and creating miniatures, figurines/ 3D replications that you can physically hold in your hands.

Full Human Body 3D Scanner comes with:

    1) Rotary table.

    2) Stand for vertical Axis movement

    3) Scanner Software.

    Technical Details :

    1) Scan Volume: It can scan full human body, Object of size range in 0.1mtr - 12mtr.

    2) Scan camera resolution:1280 x 960

    3) Scan Speed: Minimum 2 Mins.

Check out the scanned 3D Printed part that we created !!

Nice ... But a tad expensive (for my budget)

Isn't that just a Kinect on a vertical stand with the subject on a turn table instead of wobbling about like in this video which has the Kinect in a fixed position ?

Although missing the direct to gCode :

Skanect 3D is available for ... 130$ which does 3D capture, processing and sharing : exports to most popular 3D software and 3D printers which use .STL, .OBJ, .PLY and .VRML. It can use iPad with a Structured Sensor for wireless 3D scanning. That sensor, with iPad bracket (not the iPad), a hacker cable AND the Skanect Pro software is only 500$. All that would be needed is a turn table, or to walk around the subject to be scanned. The later could be your car in a clean environment (empty garage maybe ?)

I could see a somewhat curved vertical stand tall enough so the sensor could scan partly beneath and above subject. One could just push it along and around the subject to get a full scan of just about any thing ...

Serge, there are several DIY versions of Kinect based 3D scanners out on the web with the most well known being the Scan-O-Tron 3000. (video) Many of these would adapt nicely to v-slot. I'm sure something similar could be worked out for an Ipad based system.

Indeed, tons of Kinect based and Kinect like based 3D scanning out there for a while now. The Skanec bundle can be as little as 300$ (Kinect and software). V-slot and such would come in handy to motorize the scanning (steady spin of turn table and movement of the camera). The iPad bit is an interesting twist as it makes the scanning wireless. But none are 'must' to make it work.

There are few solutions out there which only relies on taking pictures, instead of scanning then processing these pictures in the right order ends up with 3D model. 123D Catch is the free one which comes to mind. Just need a camera (not necessarily an iPad); works also with Android to use smart phone to take and upload the pictures for processing. They make all of their web tools look so easy to use as well :

Would have to convert .STL to gCode at some point though. Still, this is a free alternative. This is more inline with anyone's budget.

Given all these alternatives, I am not sure about the 2000$ (1300$ on special) solution of the initial post. At least not with a lot more details on what it is that makes it better (and more expensive) then the more detailed alternatives.

So I'm looking forward to these details, on any of 3D scanning solutions, since I will eventually want some sort of versatile yet not too expensive 3D scanner.

Did you see the Scanify from Fuel3D - rapid point and shoot (less than a second !) for an instant 3D capture, in colour ... with a file ready to 3D print possible !!! Ok, so I kind of cut through some of the details, but it is way much faster than the usual 3D scanning than printing process. Cost, apparently at about 1,500 $us.

What will they think of next, eh ? (If you follow that last URL, don't buy that one ... not just yet)

Indeed. It says it is all "open", so there maybe a time where the bill of material, software and stl will be available to one and all ? As it stands, it is already a KickStarter which will be 'funded' and a go. So I did a small pledge anyways ...

What ever happened to the Atlas3D project? Did the starter cash the pledges? Deliver the goods? Still remain interestinglyed.

    UPDATE:
I just found this cool link that helps you get answers to questions like I posed:
    www.google.com

I predict that Google company is going to make 1000s of dollars one day...

Anyway, the nice people there looked it up and told me:
    ATLAS 3D Kit
