Silicone is lovely for tubing and wiring, but with only a 1mm wall thickness, it is guaranteed to kink. It's flexibility is a double edged sword. What comes with the spindle is a much harder material. I believe it's either PTFE or nylon. Either of those can get away with a much thinner wall thickness than silicone.

Antifreeze is to inhibit bacterial growth that WILL cause issues down the road.

Look for a deal on tygon tubing. That's what I use. It's a bit on the pricy side, but it runs perfect in a drag chain.. For algae and mold you can use a silver kill coil. Look them up on Amazon. Just stick it right in line with the flow.

    Hi Joe.
That Silver Kill Coil, any chance it would work on a pond filter without killing the fish??

I don't know. I wouldn't think so. Let me know if you learn something about it though. It's supposed to released silver ions into the water which are antimicrobial. I don't know what effect they would have on fish if any.
