have you looked at the linear actuators on the parts store. as far as the movement you can use a raspberry pie and arduino with cnc shield to control speed and direction

 

Yeah you can just program an Arduino to drive a stepper motor back and forth in one of those linear actuator kits, super easy project.

Otherwise... I think the diagrams need a bit more detail, because I can't really make much out.
