I use a Z probe from my X-Carve that is 15mm thick. The default setting is an Openbuilds probe that is 20mm thick. When I change the value to match my Z Probe everything works fine. But if I close CONTROL software it defaults back to 20mm. Can we get custom values to be saved? This issue started with the last update that changed the screens for Z probing.
Not at this time though a "custom" setting is in the works for a future version. For now, the defaults are for the products we supply
You'll see in a couple days or a week (; Either way, like I said, Saving is in the works in a future version (already in internal testing here in the lab) - Change is good, change means theres a new feature, better way of doing things, or an improved workflow on its way - When you develop stuff, major changes sometimes involve temporarily breaking things, to get other things to move forward. Then when that feature is done, tested and working, the developer has time to go back and backport some of the missing bits. - and often those bits need to be modified to work with the other bits that changed (; So just sit tight, you'll see the finished vision shortly, and it'll knock your socks off (;
Needed this store setting feature too! Used to store this setting for some extra safety z limit! Byetheway: I like the new probe feature! Is there anything for x/y coming too??
who knows right (; I am expecting v1.0.222 to be released today or tomorrow with the custom probe dropdown among other things. Changelog below reflects changes from 1.0.215 (last release) Linked bugs/issues has more details, screenshots - New Probe and Custom Probe wizards - New Probe Button on Main toolbar - Added support for custom Keyboard shortcuts to Macros (Issue #78 partially) - Added Keyboard shortcut for GotoZero (Issue #115) - Added Keyboard shortcuts for switching between Incremental/Continuous jogging (Issue #121) - Fixed File Association Opening bug (Bug #119 ) - Added loaded Filename to titlebar (Issue #116) - Added shortcut key F6 to jump to console (Issue #112) - Changed Keybinding for Devtools to ctrl+shift+i
Like all of the new features, however noticed I was unable to edit my old macros, can edit any new macros though. Love the keyboard shortcuts in the macros. (still want to save my probe settings)
Forgot to say, that if you can't edit macros you can't delete them. Could get crowded for someone who has a lot of macros.
Heh. I noticed the advertised OpenBuilds touch plate when I logged on today. So yes, I am pretty confident that new probe functions are imminent. Looks good.
Already fixed from a different thread, 1.0.226 is compiling in the cloud as we speak and will roll out via updates in next few mins. Fixes the Edit button, fix bugs in Mobile Jogging, adds Continuous jogging to the Mobile Jog widget.
you you guys are awesome this answered most of my questions today thanks for keeping updated on everything Still need to figure out how to save settings after the software is closed I start from the same position with most of my projects and maybe I'm doing something wrong but I have to re zero when I start a new project any advice would be greatly appreciated And thank you again for all your great work Stephen
Kudos to the dev team. I have a 3rd party probe and after the latest update it's working like a charm. Thanks for the hard work!
Is there any chance we can get a hole center finder wizard? And multiple custom probes? I'd love to use my personal probe, an openbuilds probe, and to probe off the material if i'm cutting metal. Square edge detection would be nice too (rather, finding when edge is NOT square to the machine)
I have never used OpenBuilds Controller so I can't speak to it. It is not because I have anything against it, but because about 2 months before it came out, I purchased Estlcam. It is free to use, but like you I wanted various probing functions. After seeing all the Estlcam probing options (center finding, determining if the work piece is square and if not adjusting code to the crooked piece, surface scanning and leveling, etc...) I felt it was worth paying the $59 for a license to encourage further development. Also, the CAM portion of Estlcam is way easier - IMHO - than Fusion 360 for generating Gcode. Since doing so, there has been further development and it has gotten better. Several other people on here use it as well. If you think you may be interested, go to the Estlcam YouTube Page and watch some of the videos. They are older from when version 8 came out, but they still apply. The center finding and surface scanning is what sold me on it. The Xbox controller for jogging and setting XYZ zeros helped too. Recently, I purchased the OpenBuilds older (no longer available) Z-touch plate I plan to attach to a specific location for the tool changing measurement function in Estlcam.
Has there been any development in being able to save Z Probe thicknesses?? Open Builds default is 20mm and my probe is 19.2mm. While OBC is open it keeps the setting but if I shut OBC down it reverts to the 20mm default. Mind you after on failed project due to the difference in probing thicknesses I always check now! Thanks! BTW, another thing I would love to see added to OBC is the ability to go to full screen like windows! Minor issue but I would love it! Thanks
Not yet, see OpenBuilds/OpenBuilds-CONTROL if you are curious of open tickets progress Fullscreen: just like any other windows application, just doubleclick the titlebar.
I did a quick test over the weekend, and it saves for me. Couple questions: - Does X and Y also revert for you? - Ctrl+Shift+I > Devtools > Console Tab > Enter Code: localStorage.getItem('customProbe') , press enter, Screenshot
Hey Peter, I only have the Z probe. I have to set it when I start OBC and if I close out the whole program and then restart it reverts back to the 20mm.
I played around with the universal x,y,z, probe settings. I was using the OB's probe and it always reverts back to the 20mm. I found the settings for the universal for Z probe ONLY! Thanks Peter!
Ahhh now I understand... This one! Alright let me test and fix that one instead. I was testing with the "custom" entry all along I can be a total idiot sometimes, my bad (; You should include screenshots though it helps me a lot (;
Thanks Peter, I just figured that single Z probe whas proprietary to OBs and that is why it didn't save. I noticed it didn't have a save button as well so I went to the universal/custom x,y,z probe and I turned off x and y, set probe height to 19.2mm and then saved it. Bob's your uncle! Now when I restart I just have to hit the Z function and probe away!
