Beginner Wild Horses 3d Wood Carving.

I ran into an little issue with this one. It happens though. While doing the finish cut, I had something to do and left the machine run unattended. There are not many who have not done this for at least a brief period of time, and that is most likely when things happen.

I love the dewalt 611 router, but with any brushed motor, the brushes wear out and must be changed. Usually they will start to act a little funny. Sometimes they just stop running without warning. This carve was almost complete when I walked away, and the router quit running, but the machine don't know that, and it kept on going through the motions. It broke my bit off, but that wasn't all that happened.

I did some editing on the g-code so I could try to pick up where it left off from, and that's when the hidden problems showed up. Before the bit broke, it managed to twist the frame out of square when the Y axis motors lost steps.

I didn't notice this by looking at the machine, but I surely noticed it when all the tool paths started cutting out of square. It took awhile to figure out what was going on and by then, the damage had already been done. The border of this carve is what got screwed up, but it is what it is. I squared the machine all back up, and everything is fine now, but like I said, things can happen while you're not looking.

Be careful out there, and do what you can to prevent stuff like this, or much worse from happening to you!
