Lithophanes are artworks created in thin material, that can only be seen when the material is illuminated from the back side. The trick is to machine a relief: the thinner the material, the more light will come through. The DeskProto CAM software will convert a digital image to such 3D relief, and can use that to machine a flat lithophane or a pipe lithophane.

This tutorial video teaches you how to create a flat lithophane, using the Free Edition of DeskProto V7. We used a famous Dutch painting by Vermeer as image: "Girl with a pearl Earring". You can of course use any picture that you want. Subtitles are available and can be switched on, in English and in Dutch.
If you need more background information (or if you prefer reading over viewing) you can read lesson eight of the Tutorial book : Download manuals for the DeskProto software
