    Trial run for a memorial plaque for my wife's grave.
    JPG converted to low relief (STL) using blender.
    Slate machined on my Workbee (upgraded with linear rails)
    0.5 mm tapered ballnose for the low relief, 45 degree V bit for the lettering.
    Started at 14 K rpm, 600 mm/min. Increased to 1200 mm/min during the job.
    Lettering added at 2400 mm/min, 0.25 mm doc, 1 mm flat depth.
    Waterbath used for cooling and to control dust. IMG_5449.JPG

    I have not tried carving slate like this, but it looks like it turned out really nice
    So sorry for your loss Alex. Rest in peace Alison you and your family are in our prayers ❤️

      Thank you for your thoughts Mark. I practised on grey slate (basically roofing slate), but it was too soft. This was on green slate and it carved remarkably easily. Started with a conservative feedrate and had quadrupled it by the end of the job.
